Human Tenacity

LEENA POV

Unbidden tears continued to flow as we dragged Lokkar as far as we could before fatigue took hold and we both collapsed

Moments later Slix ran towards us. he glanced at Lokkar, us and  then his eyes searched the surrounding woods dread filling his eyes

"What happened"

I held in the sob that fought to erupt

"They..They took him..Cain..traitor"

 That was all i could get out between my hyperventilating 

Slix's  expression showed he understood perfectly, morphing into a murderous rage that i have never seen on him before

He walked over to Lokkar inspecting him as i attempted to get my emotions under control

"They shot him with the some electric thingy. We dragged him here" Nina explained

Slix looked up at her with a odd expression before he picked up Lokkar and slung him over his broad shoulders

"Let's go" he growled leaving no room for argument

Nina and I stood back up wearily and followed Slix to the  rest of the rescued

Once we reached them Slix laid Lokkar down and raised his voice to be heard over the crowd.

It must have been around 30 people. They all looked frightened and skeptical about their futures

"YOU ARE ALL NOW FREED. WE ARE PART OF A REBELLION. IF YOU WISH TO JOIN US THEN STAY, IF NOT THEN YOU ARE WELCOME TO VENTURE OUT ON YOUR OWN"

A hushed silence feel over the crowd. They looked contemplative. 

Slowly some began to walk away disappearing into the density of the forest but most stayed

I was too lost in my despair to care or notice.

"We have to save Xui"  i said to Slix

He looked at me nodding in agreement

"We will. But first Lokkar needs to awaken and we need to move our home base. it has been compromised"

I sniffed as i walked over to Lokkar, he still had not woke and i began to worry. What if this thing that hit him and Xui was fatal or caused irrepealable damage?

Then i quickly discarded that thought. No they took Xui alive for a reason. I could bet him being prince was high among them. If they wanted him dead he would be. They wanted him for another purpose. One we have yet to discover. That he was alive and well  filled me with hope.

"He will awake soon. Do not fret"

Then as if his words were an omen. Lokkar's eyes snapped open and instantly  met mines

He let out a  deafening snarl, startling the rescued, who screamed in fear and even the surrounding wildlife who fled their dwellings with haste

He jumped to his feet and stalked over to me. He clenched my neck in a chocking, bruising grip

"YOU!!!!"

I did not struggle or stop his wrath. i anticipated  it. 

"I SHOULD KILL YOU!!!"

"ENOUGH!! stop Lokkar!" Slix bellowed 

He only clenched his hand tighter, cutting off my air

"LET HER GO!!" i heard Nina shout behind him

She held a large branch. far to heavy for her as it swayed in her hands. but she continued to  strike Lokkar's back ineffectively 

"I WILL NOT ASK AGIAN! IF YOU HARM HER, PRINCE XUI WILL KILL YOU FOR THE OFFENSE!!" Slix demanded
