It's several doughnuts worth of fun at least.
The casting is pretty hard to pass up - everyone is awesome in this. Daniel Craig is donning his deep South USA drawl again as the specially talented detective. Everyone else is playing some level of weird relation to the dead guy.
The structure is quite intriguing, because it feels not just like a who-dunnit but more like an active who-is-doing-it. I don't quite no how to explain that, I guess it feels like you're looking for present clues rather than past ones? But needless to say there were several points throughout the film where I was a bit "where the hell are we gonna go now?" But it kept finding it's way, doughnut style.
It does get quite a good rollick up, both entirely acknowledging it's own audience from time to time, and revelling in the format of smart arsey murder mystery. I guess it's a genre a bit like heist? This comes with a lot more twisty turnies. And a whole lot of laughs.
It's really fun to watch, 100%. But having said that, I suspect I might struggle to remember it in a year.
J* gives it 4 stars.
