It's pretty, but a bit of an indulgent writer's tale.
I can't divorce this from my initial trailer suspicions, somewhere between Broad City and Sex and The City. Our two besties and housemates are living the hard-drinking, hard-partying life. Then one finds a guy and decides to get married, thus sparking off the inevitable chain of jealousy.
Between the funky fashion and designer drugs and sex is the story of the writer who can't. And I always find this kind of story a little indulgent... a meta-tale of the woe of the artist. And I'm never satisfied by an ending that results in memoir... a closing of the chapter that sits down to the circular "and then she realised her life was the story" and sits down to write about the good times.
It is very pretty, very sparkly, and it has some funny moments. The accents are quite novel. The girls glorious to watch. But I'm just not sure it brings me anything new to this kind of meta-writer genre? They do drink a lot of wine. Particularly white wine. That just felt weird.
J* gives it 3 stars.
