No-one expected to hate this film more than me.
I hate Will Ferrell.
I think Sherlock Holmes is naff.
I'm not inclined towards period settings.
But I do like creative and comedic anachronism and taking the piss.
And this film takes the piss of everything, including taking the piss of taking the piss.
It's a curious mash of physical comedy, really bad and insulting jokes and some clever social commentary of the past, the present and the two as a strangely twixt beast.
It's a film where the audience was often laughing but in completely different places, and sometimes someone would be laughing so hard that would set everyone else off. Consider it almost like a great big taster plate of "possibly funny" gags... and you get to try all those little flavours of cheese and see which ones you respond to.
I expected to hate this, but lo, I did not.
J* gives it 3 stars.
PS. Pseduo spoiler.
I totally lost it at...
"Balloons are happy, but they're not alive."
