Alexa

It was a nice change being at Jackson's house. We talked and watched movies and above all, it was fun. Not a single word of hate or touch of violence occurred, though I keep excepting for something, anything to go wrong, or for this to be some huge joke. But after three hours of this, the doorbell rung, and I thought maybe this was what I've been expecting to happen. I didn't say anything about my thoughts though, and I merely gave Jackson a curious glance, my hands shaking in fear of something bad happening,, and he just shrugged in response, unaware of the internal turmoil that I was facing in my head.

Jackson stood up and went to open the door, not gesturing for me to follow, so I stayed, munching on popcorn, slowly, overcome with nerves, but then he yelled from the doorway, "Alexa! You might want to come here real quick."

I stopped eating the popcorn at once, my mind going into survival mode. I'm kind of scared to go over and see what's going on. Sometimes, being left in the dark is the better option than knowing.

But even so, I let out a heavy sigh and stood up from the couch. I went over beside Jackson and who I saw on the other side of the door made me want to tear my hair out in frustration, and a little bit of leftover fear. It was Cameron, Jason and Justin. I had no idea how they knew where Jackson lived or where I was, but I wasn't too concerned about that part. Why were they here, was the question on my mind.

Jackson's eyes were narrowed at my stepbrothers, and I suppose it made sense. Even Cameron, who hasn't really been bullying me and even got my ears pierced.

"What's going on?" I whispered into Jackson's ear, trying not to tremble.

"They—" he spat venomously, pointing at my step brothers, "—want to take you back to that abusive household." He crossed his arms, his glare not leaving.

"Oh..." I blinked.

"Hi, Alexa!" Cameron chirped cheerfully.

"Um, hi..." I said back, because it would have been rude not to, right?

"Okay, you guys can leave now," Jackson said blankly.

And to my surprise it was Jason that said: "No, we're not leaving without Alexa."

Justin nodded in agreement. "She's the only reason why we came over here," he says.

"Yeah, and to apologize," Jason said.

"That too," Justin agreed.

Now I am just confused. Why did they just suddenly decide to apologize now of all times? It really doesn't make sense whatsoever. They shouldn't have done it to begin with... but I did forgive Cameron... argh, I am torn.

"Well, I don't care," Jackson spat out.

"Alexa, can we talk to you?" Cameron forces a smile and then side eyed Jackson. "Alone?"

"No—" Jackson said.

I sighed. "Why?" I asked.

"Please," Cameron said giving me puppy eyes that didn't really work. And then Justin and Jason joined in....? Jackson glared at my step brothers in annoyance.

"Fine," I gave in.

"What?" Jackson demanded. "You can't just—-"

"You can look out of the window if you want," I said with a shrug.

Jackson muttered something under his breath. With one last glare at Cameron and the twins, he stalked inside. A few seconds later, the curtain moved and we could see Jackson peeking from the window.

We ignored him.

I crossed my arms. "So what exactly do you guys want?" I questioned, perplexed. Why did they feel the need to come for me? Cameron kind of makes sense, but Justin and Jason, not in the slightest.

Justin sighed. "Did we not just tell you?" he said. Um, well, not completely, but whatever.

"Alexa, just come home." Jason huffed.

"Why would I do that?" I questioned.

"I didn't want to have to do this but you left me no choice," Cameron said. "Technically your friend could be charged with kidnapping. Well, since he's a minor, his mom could—"

My eyes widened slightly. "Oh.... I didn't know that," I said quietly. "Wait, but who would—"

"Your dad," Justin jumped in, "or our mom."

Have they not been paying attention to how my dad treats me? Do they live under a rock? I doubt my dad would even care if I end up dead in a ditch, or something. But as for Veronica, I have no idea. Though, her sons surely know her better than I do.

I don't want Jackson or his family to get into trouble. I stared in the direction of the house, where Jackson was still watching us like a hawk. When he caught my conflicted stare, he waved at me and went back to glaring at my stepbrothers.

And I don't want to be a bother to Jackson. Who knows how he truly feels about this? I mean, I say that I'm okay or fine all the time when I'm not. What if he actually thinks that I'm a burden or that I'm a weak little annoying girl?

I sighed. "Well, I'll just... spend the night here," I told them. "Actually, the weekend... plus tomorrow, Friday. I'll come hom... to that house on Monday." And who knows, maybe I'll have loads of sleepovers.

"Good enough," the twins said in sinc, and then glared at each other.

"What, no it's not!" Cameron said. "Alexa don't you have any girl friends? Any at all? Or gay friends?"

"No," I replied. "And this is not up for debate. Have a nice day and good bye."

"But—" the twins and Cameron all tried to say, only for me to interrupt them with my unnecessary rudeness.

"Have a nice day and good bye," I repeated more forcefully, not caring about what they had to say, before I turned around and walked into Jackson's house, leaving a gaping Cameron and amused twins.

I think that went perfectly fine.
