Everything changed when Helios got placed into Slytherin, I still remember the look on dads face while he read the letter. The rage that replaced his calm features. He always had something against Helios, I think it was because my mother started to resent him after she gave birth to Helios. Eventually, she left after she gave birth to me. I think mum couldn't handle dads obsession with Greek Mythology, all around our home were words in ancient Greek, pictures and books were always scattered in the living room. Dad hated Helios and me, he detested the sight of our faces, he used to hurt Helios pretty bad sometimes. So last year he left to live with a friend, dads never hit me before, he just acts like I don't exist. My first day at Hogwarts, I made friends with two boys on the Hogwarts express , one turned out to be Harry Potter and the other was Ron Weasley.
I gazed over to the boy who sat on the floor in front of the sofa, the fire was crackling away as he was gazing down at his book. George and I had been friends for years, he was in the same year as me and we were friends before we even came to Hogwarts. He saw a lot of what happened behind closed doors. But he had his own troubles at home, his father was absent from his life and his mother was a mentally unwell woman who struggled a lot with her own demons, which I think was inflicted on George a lot. He was quiet but loud when you got to know him, he was a gentle boy who for some reason has a crush on Helios.
The summer had been and gone and currently, we were into week 3 of our 3rd year at Hogwarts. Although, our lives had already been threatened by the fact that Sirius Black had escaped Azkaban and was currently trying to find Harry so he could kill him, which just made everything a lot more difficult. Helios hadn't spoken to me much since we got back unless we passed each other in the halls or smiled at each other across the tables. It was lonely at home without him, but I had spent most of the summer with George anyways, we had even gone to stay with the Weasleys for a few days and we visited Luna and her father.
"Eurydice?" George question, now looking at me as I stared at the fire. My notebook had fallen off of my lap and onto the floor, making the ripped out pieces of paper scatter across the floor.
"Shit," I whispered as I gathered them up, George helping.
"What were you thinking about?" He asked and I shrugged.
"Everything really. Have you realised how dark Hogwarts has been recently, I have a feeling it's only going to get worse." I said, my voice was quiet. I didn't want anyone else to here me.
"Don't think about it too much. Let's go down to dinner." George said, in an almost assuring tone I nodded my head using magic to lock my notebook before we both made our way out of the common room and to the dining hall.
"Good Evening you two." Cedric Digory welcomed as Geroge sat next to him and I sat across from him. "You two are quieter than usual." He said looking at us both and I shrugged.
"Just tired, it's been hard going from summer back to Hogwarts. My sleeping schedule was awful during the holidays." I said looking down at my plate. We conversed at the table while we eat, talking more about our holidays and how we were going to cope with our exams this year. I glanced over at the Slytherin table where Helios was messing around with a few of his friends. But before he could catch my eye, I was staring into the eyes of idiocy. Draco Malfoy was the biggest jerk I'd ever met, him and his lousy father. I was in a lot of my classes with him and we were even partnered up for Defence against the dark arts, not my choice but Mr Lupins. I quickly tore my eyes away from his an instead looked at my brother who was already looking at me. He held his middle finger up in my direction and I rolled my eyes and looked back at George who was now laughing at Cedric who had spilt juice all over himself. When everyone was done, we all began to make our way back to our commons room, but I was quickly distracted by my brother calling my name. I held back as he jogged up to me and we stood outside of the dining hall.
"How did your summer go?" He asked. I know he felt guilty for leaving me alone with dad, but he was in a worse position than I ever was.
"It was okay, I spent most of it with, Georgie," I said using his nickname. George waited a bit behind me, Helios made him nervous and it was pretty obvious. Helios winked at the dark-haired boy, who rolled his eyes but hid his blush. My brothers chuckled before looking at me. "We stayed with the Weasleys for a few days and we visited Luna and Hermione. She even managed to get Harry out for a day to go to Diagon Alley." I said and Helios nodded with a smile.
"As long as you were okay and you were safe." He spoke with sincerity and I nodded. Without another word, he ran off after his friend and I stared at the air in front of me. Everyone had left the dining hall, except for one person. Draco stopped to stare at me and I caught his gaze.
"Eurydice?" George questioned and I just turned to him, listening as Draco walked away quickly. "You okay?" He asked and I nodded.
"Yeah. Helios was just asking about our summer, you should talk to him at some point." I whispered and George chuckled.
"And why would I want to do that?" He questioned and I scoffed, stopping in the middle of the hallway in front of him.
"I'm not dumb, not at all." I booped his nose and he just rolled his eyes. We walked back to our common room in fits of giggles.
