I stared at Oscar who was laying at the bottom of my bed, curled in a ball, protecting himself from the outside world. He was a very large cat who took up most of the bed when he wanted, which I didn't mind much. He was completely black with a few white patched scattered around his fur, which was slightly strange but I didn't question it much. He was a very cuddly cat and didn't mind you hugging him. I sighed deeply, making him stir slightly. It was early in the morning, no one was awake yet but me, I'd had a habit of accidentally waking up way too early and then having to lay in silence for the rest of the morning.

"I wish I could be you. Just lay around all day, not have to worry about anything." I whispered, Oscar stood up and slowly walked up to where I was laying. He sat down, he stood tall and I chuckled lightly as I petted him, he head-butted my nose which made me smile even wider. "You're a good bit," I whispered and he just lay down, resting his head in the crook of my neck. I didn't move for another hour, to cement in the moment. Slowly everyone woke up and started getting ready for breakfast, but I just lay, holding my cat in my arms.

"Jesus, you look awful," George announced when he entered the room. I groaned and Oscar moved from where he lay, leaving me with an empty feeling as I watched George pick up the cat.

"You disturbed my time with Oscar and you aren't supposed to be in here," I mumbled as I climbed out of bed, getting dressed for the day.

"I'm gay, it's not as if I'm in here with any ill intentions. I'm simply here to pet my friend's cat and make sure she gets to breakfast because breakfast is the best meal of the day." George said, not speaking to me, but instead Oscar who was judging his face with his head. I poured as I scooped my cat into my arms and kissed him gently.

"Okay, okay. Let's just go. We have divination first thing and that really gives me a headache." I said quickly, placing Oscar down on the bed and leaving a teddy bear for him to cuddle while I was gone. We rushed downstairs, not being able to get breakfast since I'd been too late. I apologised to George about 10 times as we finally got to the classroom.

George wasn't in my care of magical creatures class, so I did my best to try and find Harry, Ron and Hermione. Harry has been having a bad time, I could tell this whole Sirius Black thing really got to him and the dementor on the train must have scared him pretty good.

"There she is, Little Miss perfect herself." Draco patronised as I walked over to my friends.

"Thank you," I said with a smile and he just looked at me slightly shocked as I just continued to walk.

"Hey Maggie," Ron said as I approached him, Harry and Hermione, who were trying to open their books. I groaned and rolled my eyes as I tried to open my own book.

"Ron, don't call me that. I hate it." I said referencing my middle name. He rolled his eyes at me and I stuck my tongue out making Harry laugh.

"Gather 'round, find yourself a spot. That's it. Now, firs' thing yeh'll want ter do is open yer books-" Hagrid said looking around us all as we stood in confusion. Draco steppes forwards beside me and spoke up for us all in the moment.

"And how exactly do we do that?" His tone held annoyance and I wanted nothing more than to push him over.

"Crikey. Didn' yeh know? All yeh've got ter do is stroke 'em. Look—" Hagrid took Hermione's book and snapped the sellotape binding. The book starts to bite at Hagrid, but he simply runs his finger over the spine. We watched as the once aggressive book, shivers and then falls open. I stared in amazement before doing the same on my own.

"Wow," I whispered. Draco glanced over at me as my gaze scanned the book.

"Righ' then. So...so... yeh've got yer book, an' now yeh need the Magical Creatures. Right. So... I'll... I'll go an' get 'em." Hagrid said before hurrying off to get the creature.

"God, this place is going to the dogs. Wait until my father hears Dumbledores got this oaf teaching classes." Draco said and I turned to him quickly, annoyed at his words. He turned to me in shock and before I could speak, Harry did.

"Listen, you stupid pray-" he started, but Draco, Crab and Goyle all stepped back in terror was they pointed behind Harry.

"Potter, there's a dementor behind you," Draco said and we all turned quickly, but there was nothing there. The look on Harry's face was enough to make you uneasy, the boy was truly scared.

"Why do you have to be such a terror?" I asked Draco who just rolled his eyes at me before I turned to Harry, comforting him. But all our gazes were quickly averted to the large beast that Hagrid led to us. It was a beautiful creature, with the torso of a horse and the chest up as an eagle, quite magnificent.

"Beau'iful, isn' he?" Hagrid questioned and I nodded quickly.

"Hagrid. Exactly what is that?" Ron asked and I looked at Hermione who was already rolling her eyes at the scared boy, which made me chuckle slightly.

"A hippogriff o' course. Now firs' thing yeh gotta know is they're proud. Easily offended, Hippogriffs are." Hagrid said and I smirked.

"Reminds me of someone else," I said under my breath and Harry chuckled as Draco looked at me in annoyance, having heard what I said.

"Don't never insult one, 'cause it migh' be the las' thing yeh do. Right then — who wants ter come an' say hello?" Hagrid said and the only people who didn't step back were Harry and I. "Eurydice! Harry! Why dont Harry step up firs' then you can go once he's gone?" Hagrid asked looking at me and I nodded, happy that I got to watch what Harry was doing first. Ron and Hermione stood closer to me as we watched Harry interact with the bird, managing to befriend it quickly after only a second of confrontation. "Look at that. I reckon he migh' let yeh ride 'I'm!" Hagrid exclaimed and I raised my eyebrows at Hermione who gave me the same look.

"Excuse me?" Harry's smile dropped from his face as he stopped petting the creature.

"We'll jus set yeh behind the wing joint. Mind yeh don' pull any feathers out. He won' like that." Hagrid explained, lifting Harry onto Buckbeak. Before Harry could even take a second to process what was happening, Hagrid sent him off. "Off yeh go!" He called before Buckbeak flew into the sky.

"Blimey. I hope he comes back in once piece." Ron said and I just smirked. Not long passed before Harry was safely back on the ground, a beaming smile across his face. Harry and Hagrid were having a conversation off to the side when Draco caught my eye.

"Give me a go at that thing. If Potter can do it, it must be easy. You're not dangerous at all, are you, you great ugly brute-"

"Draco!" I yelled as Buckbeak spooked.

"Malfoy! No!" Hagrid called but it was too late. Buckbeak raised his talon, Draco froze and protected his face with his arm. Buckbeak brought his talon down and sliced open Draco's arm. We all watched as he rolled around the floor in pain, but completely milking it.

"What a twat," I mumbled as Hagrid excused us from the lesson to take Draco to the hospital wing.
