Sora finally felt like everything in her world was falling into place. She and Yeosang spent several days together, getting to know each other. They went to dog cafes, movies, the beach, and sometimes just walked until they couldn't walk anymore.
But Sora was stubborn. She couldn't allow herself to let go. And she didn't want to take the chance that she might hurt Yeosang if they completed their soulmate bond. So they didn't. Yeosang noticed her fear every time he brought it up. He held her when she cried and he loved her. Sometimes, he had qualms about waiting.
But he waited. For her. And waited more. The day of Jihoon's wedding arrived. Sora was happy. Happy for Jihoon and Miri, that their lives would be forever intertwined. She wished it was her, but it couldn't be her. Not like this.
She faked her way through the reception, giving dull laughs, words of congratulations like ashes in her mouth. She gave a toast to them, recalling beautiful memories that rusted in her mind.
She smiled as she stood and supported them, but she felt hollow. Everything hurt and she didn't know why. She attached herself to Yeosang's side for the rest of the night, usually his touch soothed her, but for some reason it just hurt even more. They left that night separately, Sora going on ahead.
She called the doctor privately, not bothering to tell anyone where she was going. 'He doesn't need to know,' she told herself. 'It's better if he doesn't.' She anxiously awaited the doctor's words, jumping when he called her in.
He sighed, taking off his glasses. "You're dying." Sora's breath caught in her throat.
"What?"
"It's one of those rare cases that comes with your bond. Physically, you may be close, mentally, you are apart. You're pushing him away and your bond counts that as time. It won't kill you as fast, but it will be painful. You need to complete your bond as soon as possible." Sora nodded numbly.
"Ok." She left the office, tears streaming down her face silently. 'Complete the bond, complete the bond. Wouldn't it be better if I just died?' She recalled the doctor's words.
"Yeosang will not be affected physically by your death because of the way that you're dying. The mental link will weaken and then snap, killing you. He will be fine, he will feel empty but he will be fine."
Sora walked, breath visible in the cold air. 'To die or not to die that is the question,' she thought. 'I think I'll die.' She went home, she faked smiles, she laughed. She called Miri and congratulated her and Jihoon, she called Xiaoling and wished her good luck with her engagement.
She confused people with her words, her demeanor. She decided to run to the garden where Yeosang had taken her on their first date. She ran wildly, winding ripping through her hair, biting her skin. She was dying but Yoon Sora had never felt so alive.
I'm not sorry.
Until next time!
