CHARIS
He doesn’t return any of my calls. All he did is to send me quick texts, quick short texts.
What’s happening to him?
I will be leaving tomorrow before midnight, yet he’s acting weird. Isn’t he going to miss me or any of this?
The last artist was about to finish her shoot and all of us can start packing up. Mum’s been busy with all the details; everything has to be perfect in her eyes.
“Charis,” one of the staff in a black uniform took my gaze away from my phone. I lazily cocked my brow and wait for her to continue, “Your mum’s asking for you.”
“Why?” I asked her with a croaking voice. I need a refresher.
“I’m not sure,” she shrugged. “She just asked me to call you.”
I lazily set my feet on the ground and searched for my slip-on and took the make-up remover in a wipes pouch.
I pushed my phone down my back pocket and slowly walked to where mum is.
“Hey mum,” I called as I pull two pieces of wipes from the pouch.
“Don’t remove your make up.” She said sternly, pulling the pouch out of my hand. I furrowed my brow and left my mouth open in confusion. “We’re going somewhere.” She said without looking at me.
“I can’t mum,” I protested with all the remaining energy I have. “I need to see Harry.”
“You’ll have enough time for him,” She said positively and shoved a dress to me.
“What’s this?” I almost groaned.
“That’s what you’ll wear, honey.”
“I told you, mum, I can’t.”
“Please, Charis Lynn?” She pleaded, and held my chin up, as she flutters her lashes repeatedly before kissing the tip of my nose.
I sighed and dressed up. I texted Harry that my mum’s practically dragging me somewhere I don’t know. He did not reply in five minutes so I called him and leave him a voicemail. I pouted on my seat and crossed my arms over my chest.
“Don’t frown so much, baby. You’ll dress might get wrinkled too.” She said as she swiped her gloss to her already shiny red lips.
I pulled my gaze away from my phone as soon as the car went to a full stop. “Why are we here?” Did something happen to Lizzy or to any of the kids?
“I thought we can visit the kid you are very fond of.” She answered.
“Then why do I have to wear this dress again?” I cocked my brow knowing that I am definitely not wearing some fancy dress for these kids. They need eyes that can see, not some dressed up visitor.
“Because I was thinking of you when I sketch that up.” She said looking down the navy blue dress perfectly hugging my body. It’s quite short for my liking but something in this dress makes it look really decent and comfortable. “It matches your blue eyes.”
“Mum, it matched my blue eyes…” My eyes are no longer blue like hers.
“Oh honey, I didn’t mean to, I’m sorry.” She side hugged me on our way to Alma’s desk.
“You don’t have too. I’m still lucky.” There’s no single doubt that I’m lucky to have Nathan’s eyes. If it wasn’t because of him, I won’t be able to see everything I have seen and will be seeing. I couldn’t have seen Niall again or couldn’t have met Harry.
“Mum, do you mind if I call Harry first? He hasn’t been replying any of my messages and it’s getting late.” We have like few more hours to spend together before I fly tomorrow. God, tomorrow. Where is he?
“It can wait, Charis.” Mum insisted that Harry cn’t wait, but the thing is, I cannot. I’m missing him badly. She pulled me towards the information desk where Alma is nowhere to be found. An unfamiliar lady welcomed us with a smile. I’ve been meaning to ask where Alma is, but mum was quick to tell her that we’ll be visiting Lizzy.
She walked us over the carpeted corridor that I new for a fact that doesn’t lead to Lizzy’s room.
“Did they shift rooms or something? Because this is definitely not Lizzy’s…”
“Surprise!” A loud cheer and clapping invaded my ears. My eyes were focused to the kids staring at nowhere but in my direction, their smiles are as wide as it can be as they put their hands together in happiness. The bright lights and few flashes made me step back but, somebody pushed me to step into the room and she whispered, “Surprise, honey.”
My eyes took time to adjust to the sudden light. I scanned the room with awe and I can see familiar faces, Mel, James and Dylan, where is Gran? Oh, Uncle James and Carlo are both here too, Lee and Barry and some of the rest of the team, and Sharlene English? Perrie and Zayn, the rest of their boy and girl band members and few of their crew I assume, and of course, Niall and Oli.
A rush of disappointment consumed my chest when the person I’ve been looking for the entire day wasn’t there. Scanning happy and smiling faces of the people I love is satisfying but seeing the one was never as satisfying as you could ever feel. Mum was no longer behind me, so I decided to go over the kids first as soon as I see Oli pulling Niall to walk towards me. Before I could even take my first step, a warm familiar feeling snaked around my waist and hugged me from behind, bringing a bunch of spring flowers to my face. “Surprise, baby.” He whispered directly to my ear and kissed my jaw then nuzzled his nose to the crooked of my neck. Goosebumps rise from my skin at once. I turned to see his face grinning down at me. I took the bunch of flowers from his hand and playfully shoved it to him. “You did this?”
“I figured to give you an advance winning celebration.” His voice is as a whisper to my ear, though we are both struggling to hear each other from the noise that surrounds us.
“Don’t give me too much pressure, I’m nervous as hell.”
“Whatever happens, you’re my champ, you know that.” He pulled me in between his safe arms, resting his hands at the small of my back. I hugged him tight and tried to memorize his smell. This is what I’m going to miss, his touch, his warmth, his comfort breathing against my neck and hair, his fingers pressing down at the small of my back. I miss him this near, how much more if we’re miles apart? Can we both do that? How?
“I miss you.” I told to his chest.
“I miss you too, baby.”
I pulled away to finally look into his eyes. He was looking down, his hair falling down his face and he was sniffing. I cupped his cheek, “Hey.” I giggled.
“I’m fine. I’m okay.” He wiped off the forming tears in his eyes and he smiled down to me, kissing my forehead once again.
“Are you sure?” Is there more to this huge surprise? He’s worried about something.
“Yeah,” he shrugged off my question and pulled me tighter against his body.
“Are you worried about something, Harry?” I furrowed my brows. Worry and slight anxiety of his odd behavior engrosses my mixed emotions right at this moment.
“I just… I just love you so much, Charis Lynn!” He said, cupping my both cheek, bringing our faces as close as possible.
“I love you too, Harry Edward!”
