I'm an American who for some reason prefers the spelling "grey" over "gray". I dunno, just fits better. Chapter inspired by i don't sleep by Sarcastic Sounds. I know, it's either too much drama, or too much fluff. It's hard for me to balance, and I apologize. I also apologize for this chapter being so short. Anyways, enjoy! I'm too lazy to edit the second half soooo

Yamato looked over at Kakashi's little altar, studying the framed pictures of Obito and Rin and Minato and Kakashi. So much has changed, he thought, frowning. Every story he's heard about young Kakashi confirmed he was nothing but a silver-haired, lone-wolf ball of angst who cared about no one. But he did. He cared about his teammates and his Sensei. He cared about Gai, and soon, Yamato. Tenzo decided a long time ago he didn't like change, that was when Kakashi left Anbu. He learned to get used to it, to ignore it, push it to the back of his mind and forget. Yamato fell onto the bed and stared up at the ceiling, wondering when the two had started growing up. Wondering when they had started loving each other. Wondering how much time they had left.

Tenzo sat up and pouted. He didn't want him or Kakashi to go. He didn't want to come home one day and have to help Kakashi get dressed because he couldn't on his own. He didn't want to one day bump into a teary-eyed and panicking Sakura, sprinting from the hospital to find him. He didn't want to say goodbye.

"Tenzo? Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. What's up?" Kakashi brought up a hand to Yamato's face and wiped away a tear.

"You're crying."

"I am?" Yamato chuckled. "I didn't notice." Kakashi tilted his had sideways and joined him on the bed, putting his hand on Yamato's.

"If you wanna talk about it, I'm here." Yamato leaned into Kakashi, and shifted his position so that he was lying on Kakashi's lap, looking up at him. "Say something, Tenzo," Kakashi said in his most gentle voice ever, and Yamato could hear the slightest hint of worry.

"Hm..." Yamato reached up and cupped Kakashi's cheek, and started playing around with his silver hair. Silver, not grey. Not grey just yet.

"That doesn't count. Give me a whole sentence. Just one sentence." Yamato continued to fiddle around with Kakashi's hair, looking into his eyes and searching his mind for words to say. But nothing came out. Kakashi waited a little longer, maybe a few minutes more, but he was Hatake Kakashi. An unpatient man, indeed.

"You're worrying me, Tenzo."

"Sorry." Kakashi leaned down and kissed Yamato's forehead.

"What's wrong?" At this point, Tenzo had already acknowledged that he was a man. Unfortunately, by doing so, he refused to swallow his teary-eyed and bruised pride. He thought it was embarrassing for a grown man to be scared of the future.

"I'm scared."

"Of what?"

"I don't want you to die."

----

"Morning, Tenzo, did you sleep?"

"I couldn't really sleep." Kakashi stepped away from the eggs for a second and just hugged Yamato. It wasn't a "I'm sorry for your loss," kind of hug, or a "Hey, friend, haven't seen you in a while," hug, or when you hug your mom. It felt warmer than that, more welcoming than any hug he'd ever been given.

"Talk to me," Kakashi said, gently swaying their bodies from side to side.

"I couldn't stop thinking about everything that could happen."

"We're ninja, Tenzo. It's our job to sacrifice ourselves for the sake of others. You've grown up a shinobi. Why're you wondering about it now?"

"I didn't think I could ever miss someone so much, and they haven't even left," Yamato chuckled. "I guess negative thoughts got the best of me, hm?"

"Mah, now how did that happen?" Tenzo shrugged, as one of Kakashi's arms moved to finish up some breakfast, while the other remained around Yamato. Kakashi released Yamato and poked him on the nose. "And because we're ninja, we're probably survive to Tsunade's age."

"How old is she, anyways?"

"Most Jonin only live up to about half her age, but we're not most Jonin. I'm Hatake Kakashi, the Copy Nin, and you're Captain Tenzo Yamato, possessing the powers of the First."

"Did she tell you how old she is? I don't have a clue."

"She didn't tell me, I had to steal her file."

"That's illegal."

"Yeah, but now I know: she's 24 years older than me, 28 years older than you."

"Oh, actually, I'm at exactly 25, a Jonin's average life expectancy rate."

"Exactly. And look around. Not a single enemy in the village, not a single one after you. Not a single thing to worry about. Besides, you're one of the strongest shinobi I know, and I'm sure anyone in this village would give their life for you." Yamato smiled and squeezed Kakashi real hard.

"I love you," He said, and walked out the door. Kakashi shrugged.

"More breakfast for me then."

---

Well, it took a while for Kakashi to realize Yamato would probably be ranting about this whole thing at bar night. Too bad he couldn't have alcohol, but that'd also mean he basically had authority over everyone. He could record funny things they said, or trick them into doing crazy pranks. Maybe being alcohol free wouldn't be so bad.
