Two Jonin and an Investigation

"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?"

Title from Sonnet 18, a poem by Shakespeare. This song, "Chinese New Year," was the whole inspiration for this chapter, and fits it so perfectly (In my opinion). UNEDITED I'll do it later

Kakashi walked, foot after foot, dopey grin on his face. He pushed through the crowded streets of Konoha, and reached a small cliff, just looking over the lake. He laughed, threw his shirt and pants off and jumped in. The heat of the sun balanced neatly with the cold water, and the clear skies seemed to carry a light summer breeze through the leaves of every tree in Konoha. He swam around a bit, and let himself sink deep into the cool waters, feeling the warmth and sunlight shine through the water.

Tenzo sunk his chakra down to his feet and ran up the stone, being careful not to be seen. He chuckled to himself as he hoisted himself onto the top of the famed Hokage Rock. He let the warm sun hit his face, and be cooled soon after by the light breeze. He took out a marker and wrote a "K" and a "Y", only separated by a little heart. He laughed and closed his eyes, then closed them tightly and he jumped. He jumped off the Hokage Rock and let himself cherish the feeling of being weightless, falling and letting the ground beneath him disappear.

This was every summer for the two Jonin.

The first day of every summer was treated as it was when they were 10 and 14. Not a single year had gone by where they hadn't spent the first day of summer breaking rules and having fun together. It had never changed, and they loved it so.

Kakashi and Yamato met a little bit later, at Ichiraku's to discuss their plans. But, wait, they had no plans. It was the first day of summer. Yamato reminded himself of this and grabbed Kakashi's hand. He dragged him out of the busy streets and into the trees. They soon came to a beautiful clearing with a wooden bench and a radio. Tenzo turned it on, and they happily danced to "Chinese New Year" and ate rice balls that the Ninken brought. Afterwards, Kakashi picked up Yamato bridal style and went back to the busy streets of Konoha for Dango. They ran into the rest of Team 7 there.

"What're you doing? Are you okay, Yamato Taichou?"

"We don't have much time to talk, guys." Kakashi picked up the Dango and jumped away with Tenzo to a tiny secret beach they made together last summer. They built giant sandcastles in their boxers and cartwheeled on the warm sand and played volleyball and had races in the calm waters.

"Hey, let's host a trip to our little beach for everyone later. But what do you wanna do now?

"Hey, Senpai, let's prank people." Kakashi knew exactly what Yamato meant. They snuck into Asuma's apartment and took all of his cigarettes. Snickering, they replaced it all with cigarette shaped licorice, and went on to prank Gai. They stole all of his green jumpsuits and left a note saying they'd be returned the next day. That meant Gai was left in his boxers for a whole day at least. Iruka was next, of course. They snuck into the academy and wrote all over the black boards, and cut Iruka's chair legs.

They raced over to the top of the Hokage Rock, doing cartwheels and sparring. They haven't laughed together like this in forever. One year, to be exact.

"Tenzo, happy first day of summer." Kakashi said, unable to stop his wide smile.

"Why isn't everyday like this, Senpai?" Tenzo said, resting his hand on Kakashi's. "I wish it was."

"Me too." They stood up and watched the clear sky for a little bit more. "We don't have much time left. Hey! Let's go to the hot springs!" Tenzo chuckled and picked up Kakashi, bridal style, and jumped off the Hokage Monument. They really seemed to like carrying each other like that. The hot springs were nearby.

They ditched their clothes in the locker room and jumped into the water. Kakashi even yelped a bit, at how hot the water was.

"Whoever stays the longest underwater wins," Yamato finished, knowing he would win. They inhaled deeply and plunged into the seemingly boiling water. Tenzo won, as expected. Kakashi watched carefully as Yamato jumped out of the water with a proud smile on his face.
