CHAPTER FIFTY NINE
SOUTHERN
I woke up to the familiar pungent smell of hospital disinfect, invading my nostrils. I scrunched my eyes at the bright light that was sipping through my closed eyelids. I felt powerless and heavy. It taking me a lot of effort and energy to move my hand and body. My curiosity slowly pried, I open my swollen eyes to meet a simply cream hospital room. I slid my eyes sideways, short but plenty deeply cuts run along my arms, on my right hand was a needle for my vein.
I glanced around and saw I was alone but I hear faint voices outside the white door. Pushing myself to sat, I groan painfully when I felt a stab in my back and the back of my neck, I ignored it and sat completely exhausted. My breath coming in short pants, the pain was bearable yet exhausting. I pulled on the IV line and felt sharp pain, blood sipped out to my skin, I winced at the sight. Akala ko madali lang itong gawin, seems like the movies I watch doing this is a complete lie.
Binaba ko ang mga paa sa kama at inapak ito sa malamig na sahig. The cold felt foreign on my bare feet, the lifeless temperature send eerie feeling inside me. Standing on my shaky legs and on white hospital gown, I glance at the closed door as I hear laughters outside. It sounds quite familiar.
Nakahinga ako ng maluwag ng magawa kong ihakbang ang mga paa ko. I feel weak, my legs are shaking that I have to hold onto something for support. My whole body is tense, muscles and wounds aching, skin beneath the patches felt like tearing into pieces. I cried in pain, then suddenly, the door swung open with a tall, dark brown hair and worried noble eyes stood behind the door. A look of surprise consumed his expressive eyes as he saw me pathetically holding onto the bed metal frame for dear life.
"South! Anong ginagawa mo?!" He came up to me and tried to help me lie back in the bed but I remain standing on the ground. "South!" he warned, a scowl plastered on his handsome face. "Bumalik ka na sa kama. Kailangan mong magpahinga." He tried to pull me again but I stood still.
I shook my head and stare at my bare toes. "I..I need to see Coby and Rucc" I said, voice cracking. My throat feels dry, my chapped lips felt rock salt.
Biglang lumawag ang hawak ni Gab sa akin kaya nag-angat ako ng tingin sakanya, umiwas siya kaagad ngunit hindi nakaligtas sa mga mata ko ang lungkot sa mga mata niya. I panicked and gripped his arms, my heart is pounding and I felt like exploding in just a moment.
"Sabihin mo b-bakit..." I swallow and took in a deep breath to calm myself. "Pupuntahan ko sila kaya sabihin mo kung nasaan sila" I said, voice firm and trembling.
Gab shook his head then look at me, I was taken aback when I saw the tears on his eyes.
"South.."
Binitawan ko ito at humakbang isa paatras sakanya. He tried to reach me but I shook my head.
"Tell me, Coby is fine right?"
Tumango siya kaagad. "He's fine."
Tumango rin ako bilang pagkumpirma sa sarili ko na okay nga si Coby. "How about Rucc? Tell me he's doing great" I smile encouragingly but my smile slowly faded when his tears fell down on his cheeks. "Gab, t-tell me he's alright."
