I could hear her voice cracking. Why was she upset? She sounded close to tears and I didn't like that. I was in the library getting some music books for my tomorrow.
I followed the voice and stopped when I saw her talking to Paul. Was he the reason why she was crying? It better not be.
''Are you sure?'' What did he ask her?
''I've wanted to be with you since the age of ten. If pretending to be your boyfriend is as close I'll ever get, well I'll take it.'' I froze. Was she seriously going to get with him? She does know she'sdating me doesn't she? She would never cheat. I know they've had their past of his Paul's sister, but he has bullied her for years.
''You really are the amazing.''
''Of course I am.'' he joked. ''Now, can I have a little love?'' He opened his arms for Lacey to walk into. I saw her smile as she sat on his lap. ''You know, I've wanted to hold you like this for years.'' I felt my anger boil.
I finally made my existence known and forced a rough cough.
They both looked up and Lacey's current red face from his comment turned to white.
''Chase. . .'' I could already feel the tension in the air.
''Hello Miss Cook, Mr Smith.'' I said through my teeth. I hated saying their names in the sentence. Why did Lacey have to say my name though? She does remember that Paul is a student and could tell.
''Chase, it's not what it looks like really.'' Lacey said quickly, walking gracefully towards me.
''I don't know what you're talking about.''
''He knows.'' She whispered.
''He knows what?'' Did she tell him?''
''He saw and heard us when we made that compromise.''
''So why didn't he say anything?'' She stuck on her own words.
''Because I like Lacey and wouldn't want to get her in trouble,'' Paul said, walking towards us. ''Also, you're an alright teacher.''
''Thanks?''
''Can we go to your room? We'll explain everything.'' I nodded and we walked in silence.
Once inside, I locked the door.
''Why were you so upset Lacey? I heard your voice crack.''
''B-Because. . .''
''Her so called "best friends" called her a bitch and basically dumped her for no reason.'' I walked towards Lacey and pulled her into a embrace. She quickly returned the hug and I swear I heard a sob accidentally slip from her lips.
''It's OK Lacey. You don't need them.''
''But they know Chase. What if they tell?''
''Crap.''
''Paul has a plan.'' She whispered.
''What plan?''
''To date Lace-''
