'' I can't believe you brought me here!'' She moaned as I parked the car.
''You need to talk to them.''
''No!''
''Stop being so stubborn! You're so lucky to actually-'' I stopped before I finished. It wasn't fair to say that.
''Sorry.'' She apologised, looking away.
''No, I'm-''
''Let's go.'' She forced a smile for half a second before stepping out the car. I just had to snap didn't I? Note the sarcasm.
I knocked on the door and Lacey suddenly clung to my side. She must be scared to face them. She hadn't seen them in a month.
The door opened and appeared the blond haired woman. She had a small smile on the pale face. I couldn't help but stare at the bags under her eyes.
''Hello you two, come in.'' She instructed in a nice tune before walking inside. ''I'm going to pack some clothes for you Lacey so you can be staying with him, if that's all right with you Chase?''
''Of course.'' She smiled sadly before making her way up the stairs.
I took Lacey's hand and kissed her forehead. When we got into the dining room, it was filled with people I have never seen before. They were all in sets of two if you singled them out. A couple with a couple.
''Would you like to take a seat?'' Her farther asked. People also took a seat.
I nodded while Lacey just held my hand tighter and followed wherever I went.
''So how have you two been?'' Alex asked, taking a sip of his drink. It didn't smell like coffee- maybe hot chocolate?
''We've been fine, haven't we Lacey?'' She didn't respond, instead, she just snuggled more into my side.
''That's good to hear. We have some news though.''
''What news?''
''The trial of Poppy's farther has been moved further away so it's on January 27th.''
''OK.''
''Lacey, I know it's going to be hard, but how much can you remember of that day with Laura?'' Lacey still chose to be silent, while she looked hugged my torso. She looked so frightened. ''I know, you probably hate us but-''
''I don't hate you.'' I wanted so much to see what was going through her head. ''And I remember everything.'' She added.
''Good, do you think you will be comfortable discussing it in the court?''
''I don't have much chose do I?'' She said sarcastically.
''Lacey, they are trying to help.''
''Maybe I don't need help?'' Why did she sound so calm and causal? it was really tearing me up inside. Her parents must be worse.
''Lacey, look at me.'' She turned to face me and- even if she was trying to hide it- you could see the concern in her brown eyes. ''I know you're just hiding your concern. I can see it in your eyes. Just talk to them.''
''OK.'' She whispered.
''By the way Chase, let's introduce you to the rest of the family.'' Lacey's mother announced emerging from the stairs with a blond haired woman. She joined a guy around the same age and walked towards us.
