Once you find that one person, when they're in pain, the pain hits you too. As if you're one person. And that's how I feel right now. Cold. Empty. Lost.
Alex had called me and informed me that she did not do this to herself. Her fucking grandfather had. He had cut all her arms, made a large gash in the back of her delicate head and then stabbed her in her stomach, and since she hardly had anything on her, it caused double damage.
I'm currently on my way to the hospital. The journey was agonizing since my phone had died so updates were cut short. But I found out that she had lost her life twice, but they somehow managed to find her precious heart beat again.
I don't know how, but somehow they did, and for that- I am thankful to everyone who helped.
When they first told me that she had lost a beat, I died inside too. I cannot live without her. And if she had stayed gone, I would soon be gone with her. I just wouldn't be able to live without her. Literally.
Finally arriving at the white building, I make my way towards it, after paying the guy.
"Lacey Cook please," I ask the receptionist.
"Are you family?" I really hate it when they ask the question.
"I'm her fiance." I say frantically. I need to see her like right now. Just being this far from her is too painful for me. Lying is the only way of getting in.
"I don't remember her parents say any-" By now tears was escaping my eyes. The receptionist gave me a look of sympathy before telling me where Lacey was.
Even though, I'm tired, I still ran up the six floors of the building like sonic- Stupid lifts. By the time I reach the floor I need to be on, the back of my legs ache, my breath is ragged and it's hard to stand straight. My head spinning, but as soon as I see them, my heart races again and I make a slight and steady jog over to them.
"Chase? You got here early." Alex greets me. Poppy is on a blonde woman's lap, sleeping, looking tired as ever. She must be going through hell. Her only daughter is in hospital it's because of her father. Alex told me that she blames herself for not being a fit enough mother, but it's not. Alex tried to get her away because they had been going through a lot in their marriage. They wasn't fighting or anything, but apparently Poppy goes through these episodes of depression and she wouldn't go to work at all.
"I know, the flight came early. How is she?" I know it's a stupid question, but I need to know of her condition and how bad she is.
"She fighting, but at the same the time, she's . . . loosing." He tries to keep his voice steady, but I know he will crack soon.
"Can we see her yet?" I ask, hope, lacing in my croaked voice. I need to see her or I will go mad for sure.
"She's in ICU." Where his only words, and immediately, my shoulders flop in annoyance. I know it's not his fault, but I need to see her.
