"Morning" you walked into the schoolhouse taking of your coat and hat. "morning Y/n" Diana said as she came walking towards you. "my what happened to your shoes?" she asked as she looked down widening her eyes. "I stepped in mud" you said looking at your filthy shoes "the forest is a puddle" you said as you and Diana walked towards your seats leaving a small trail of mud. "is it just me or was this summer way to short" you say causing Diana to chuckle. she was about to say something when the teacher barged into to classroom. "open your readers to page 38" he said as he stood in front of the blackboard. you sighed and opened your book. you looked to the side to see Gilbert Blythe reading while not paying any attention to the teacher. you smiled before focusing on the lesson.
the lesson was boring as always so you were more than pleased when it was time for lunch. you sat with your friends while occasionally glancing over at Gilbert. his nose was still in a book and you were wondering what he was reading. when the conversation between your friends shifted to needlepoint you excused yourself from them and made your way over to Gilbert. "what are you reading?" you asked as you stood beside him. he looked up from his book a little confused because you hadn't really talked to him since he came back from his travels. "a book about medicine" he said sending you a weak smile. your intrigue grew as you sat down next to him. "do you wanna be a doctor?" you asked as your eyes sparkled with curiosity. "yea one day" he said with a smile.  "we haven't talked in so long" you said trying to keep a conversation going so you wouldn't have to go back and talk about whatever your friends were talking about. "yea.. not since I left" he said scratching his neck. you thought about how things were before Gilbert left. you would've considered him a friend back then and now you didn't talk anymore. "do you wanna hang out?" you asked with a small frown. "you know just catch up" Gilbert slightly raised his eyebrows. "sure" he said with a smile. you smiled back. "great!" you said before sending him one last smile and returning to your friends. "what were you talking about?" Jane asked while she took a bite of a strawberry tart. "I just asked what he was reading" you said not wanting them to know you were gonna spend time with thim because you knew they would make a fuss. after lunch you sat back in your seat next to Diana. "so what did you and Gilbert really talk about?" she whispered. "how did you know-" you got cut off by her. "just asking what he's reading doesn't make him stare at you like that" she said as she giggled softly. you looked over to Gilbert to see he was indeed looking at you. you send him a smile and he sends one back before turning back to his book with a slight blush on his cheeks. "well for your information Diana I did ask what he was reading but we're also gonna spend some time together this afternoon you know to catch up" you whispered after turning your head back to Diana. "hmm I see" she said with a small smirk. "what?" you asked causing her to chuckle. "I happen to recall you were once head over heals for Gilbert" she said causing your cheeks to heat up.

she remembered?

"well I'm not anymore" you said as you turned away from her. "but you're blushing" she said smirking even more.

please let the lesson start now.
please let the lesson start now.

"I don't like him anymore okay" you said causing Diana to chuckle. "if you say so" she said shaking her head. you glanced over to Gilbert.

what if I still like him?

you sighed as the lesson started. you shoved Gilbert out of your head and focussed on your book not noticing the pair of hearteyes on you.

after school you waited for Gilbert in front of the schoolhouse. you felt a little nervous. Gilbert walked up to you with a smile and you immediately started walking hoping your friends wouldn't pay attention to you. Gilbert told you about all the places he had been to and his new friend. you immediately felt comfortable around him again just like you did before he left. and your feelings came back aswell. butterflies in your stomach everytime he would smile. and the feeling of something squeezing your heart when he looked at you with those sparkling eyes. you reached Gilbert's house and went inside both taking off your coats. you put your books away and followed Gilbert into the kitchen where he made tea. you sat down looking around when a man entered the kitchen. you stood up and smiled at him. "you must be Sebastian" you said as you shook his hand. he nodded and smiled. "I'm y/n" you said as let go of his hand. "ah so you're y/n" he said causing you to frown you saw Gilbert giving Sebastian a look in the corner of your eye.

you chatted with Gilbert and Sebastian for the rest of the afternoon until you had to go back home. "I'll walk you home" Gilbert said as he grabbed his coat and handed you yours. "oh you don't have to" you said taking your coat. "but I want to" he said. you smiled and he smiled back as he opened the door for you. you started walking towards your house when suddenly started raining. you groaned. "I miss summer so much" you say as Gilbert chuckles. "why don't you go back home. you already know it's a long way and you'll have to walk all the way back in the rain" you say while your dress is getting soaked. "I don't mind" he said smiling as you reached the main road. much to your relieve it wasn't full of puddles. "are you sure? you'll catch a cold" you said as you slightly raised your eyebrows at him. "I'll be fine" he said smiling. he suddenly took your hand. "Dance with me" he said twirling you around. you giggled and danced in the pouring rain. his cold wet hand in yours while his other hand was on your waist. you held onto his shoulder as he swayed you around on the rhythm he was humming. he twirled you around again and pulled you closer rubbing your lower back with his hand. your heart started beating faster at how close you were standing and Gilbert stopped dancing with a blush on his face. his face was inches away from yours and he could feel your breath. "it's really hard to not kiss you right now" he whispered as he brought his hand up to your face. you felt like you couldn't breath while Gilbert's eyes stared intensely at your lips. his thumb slowly stroking your bottom lip. you didn't know what to do it was like you were frozen. you stared at Gilbert's lips. they were leaning closer and closer and your heart was beating faster and faster. you closed your eyes and felt Gilbert's lips gently pressing on yours. the sounds of water drops all around you as you ran your fingers through his wet curls. you pulled him closer and he softly bit your bottom lip. you both felt frozen in time standing there on the middle of the road in the pouring rain. you pulled away breathlessly as you stared at Gilbert. "wow" you said letting out a chuckle. a big grin appeared on his face. "I honestly thought you were gonna push me away" he said as he looked at you with sparkling eyes his thumb slowly stroking your flustered cheek. "why would I do that" you said as your arm wrapped closer around him. "well I thought you didn't like me back" he said letting out a chuckle. you kissed him once again but this time shorter. you pulled away and took Gilbert's hand. "It's already late, and since you insisted on walking me home you better do it quick" you said as you started walking. you send Gilbert a smile as he pressed a kiss on your cheek. you squeezed his hand in response while your cheeks turned red. "well I'll see you tomorrow" you said as you stood in your front of your front door. "yea.." he said sendimg you a smile. you grabbed his face and gave him one last kiss before you went inside to take off your wet coat. you then walked over to the window to see a grinning Gilbert walk off between the rain drops.
