The rain pelted against her window, dripping down which caused the outside to appear blurry. Although she didn't mind, she never minded, she loved the weather, rain and all, and took the opportunity to stay indoors. Bundled up in swatches of blue and yellow, she shivered under her blankets as Beverly sat across from her fanning herself. The small heater was like hot breath fanning on Beverly's neck, and she couldn't help but occasionally groan in utter annoyance.
"I told you not to go out in the rain, Y/n." Beverly scolded, picking up her pile of cards to shift through them. She paused, flickering her eyes up to her friend, who's face was only visible though she clearly looked like she was somewhere else.
Her eyebrows were struck in a painful expression, and Beverly swore in the low light she could see the build up of tears coat her eyes in a glossy like state. She quickly placed her cards back down and scooted forward, ignoring the blistering warmth from beneath the covers as she leaned into her friend. Y/n accepted it gratefully, placing her head softly on Beverly's shoulder with a quiet sniffle.
"And here I thought you liked the rain." Beverly teased, sending a sly smile at Y/n, who's gaze remained on the deck of cards between her fingers. She flipped the queen of hearts between her fingers for a moment, before picking up the queen of spades as well and holding them next to each other. Y/n smiled briefly, before her lips twitched down into a small frown. "Babe, what's wrong?"
Y/n felt her hands stiffen at the nickname. That was exactly what was wrong. Beverly was a flirt, a good one at that. She was beautiful and charming, smart and adventurous, she was everything you could ever want. Clearly Ben and Bill noticed, but they weren't the only ones. Y/n had noticed ever since seventh grade when she moved here. Beverly was the first to introduce herself and ever since then they had been inseparable. Y/n could never deny the rapid heart beat and blush she adorned whenever Bev was around. It was like a constant melody that would get stuck in your head, and no matter how many other songs you play, that one always creeps back. She couldn't hit pause, she couldn't fast forward or rewind. She could only play. Listen. She could only sit there as Beverly ripped her heart out piece by piece.
"Do you ever feel as though no matter what you do, your stuck in the same place? You can't move, just stand there and watch. Like you're spectating your own life without a choice. I can't do anything about this feeling Bevy, I just can't." Y/n choked out, letting the cards slip between her fingers and flutter to the ground. They slid forwards a bit, allowing Beverly to pick them up and study them carefully. She glanced back at Y/n, who had sheepishly turned her head to the side as tears poured from her eyes down to her chin. The rain had seemed to tap harder against the pane, making Beverly's worry increase.
"Y/n I....what's wrong?" Beverly put the cards back down, unintentionally placing them in Y/n's line of sight. Y/n glanced down, sniffled, then turned to Beverly with a painful expression. One that was serious, serious and broken.
"You don't understand. I don't think you ever will." She whispered, letting her eyes falter back to the cards for a moment.
Beverly leaned forward more, grabbing Y/n's hands to offer a quick squeeze, "Then help me understand, Y/n. I won't give up until I know what's wrong so I can help you." Beverly smiled softly, tilting her head so she could see Y/n's face clearly.
