INT. VALERIE'S DRESSING ROOM - DAY

TITLE OVER: Thursday. The second semi-final.

David is waiting with a confused expression. Guy comes in.

GUY

Valerie will be out in a second. (whispering) Yeah, she's on time, I'm shocked too.

Guy leaves. From behind a curtain, Valerie enters in a robe.

VALERIE

Hello darling! How are you?

They hug.

DAVID

I'm great, Ms. Ash. How are you?

VALERIE

Please, call me Valerie. That cute accent, are you French?

DAVID

Oui.

VALERIE

(in French) I love French. You are best.

DAVID

(in French) Thank you. The French love you too.

VALERIE

And that's all the French I know. I should have learned more from that French model I dated. (smirks) But we mainly used the body language.

DAVID

(giggles then stops) I swear I can carry a conversation better than this but I'm so excited.

Valerie grabs a snack and starts eating it.

VALERIE

You're adorable. (points to David's hand) Is that a wedding ring?

DAVID

Yeah.

VALERIE

Where's he? Are you married to yourself? Is it that kind of a situation? I heard it happens in Eurovision circles.

DAVID

He is coming tomorrow. Not the biggest Eurovision fan.

VALERIE

(looks at the snack) Delicious! So, he is not a fan, but he's coming to Budapest for you. You have a good man there.

DAVID

Yeah, I guess.

VALERIE

What?

DAVID

Nothing.

VALERIE

Oh come on. I know gay love, I love it, I receive a lot of it. Tell me.

DAVID

Lately, it's been a little... "On the Rocks" as you would have sung it.

VALERIE

(smiles) Nice... The reference, not the situation. Continue.

DAVID

I was hoping this trip could help us have some fun together but there's not much time left.

VALERIE

Well... Maybe it's like my other number 1 song. A "Natural End".

DAVID

(confused) That didn't go to number 1.

VALERIE

It did on the sales chart.

Valerie gets another snack. David looks worried.

DAVID

I guess it's a possibility.

VALERIE

Oh don't look so devastated! Like I know what I'm talking about. At least you got a ring on your finger.

David smiles.

VALERIE

You must know Eurovision. Do you think I'll win? You can be honest.

DAVID

(in French) Absolutely.

VALERIE

Parfait! Let's take a picture!
