Eli's POV
"Well shit." She muttered before she began to fall.
Luckily I was close enough to catch her this time. I pulled her into my arms before rushing her to the couch. I laid her down gently before pulling out my phone sending a text to dad asking him to come right over.
I was certain she was just feeling overwhelmed by everything. I don't think she needs to be rushed to the hospital or anything especially since I caught her and she didn't hit her head.
I can't imagine all that was running through her head right now. First she finds out the man from her nightmares isn't even her father, then he makes bail.
Honestly though, it makes sense that he's not her father. I was never able to understand how someone could treat their own daughter that way. It's not an excuse though. He's still a despicable excuse for a human being. He still deserves to be buried six feet under.
"What happened?" My dad interrupted my thoughts, rushing into the living room.
"Joan called. Someone paid Kyle's bail. I think she was overwhelmed and her body just needed to give her mind a break." I explained not taking my eyes off the beautiful girl. "I caught her so she didn't hit her head or anything. I think she'll be okay, I just wanted you here just in case you know?" I asked.
Suddenly memories of the last time she passed out like this flooded my mind. I felt so helpless and terrified then. The way her eyes rolled into the back of her head is burned into my brain. This is different though.
"Someone bailed that sick piece of shit out of jail? Who the hell would do that?" Dad asked.
The thought actually didn't cross my mind. Maybe he's got some wealthy friends? "You don't think Danielle lied about divorcing him do you? You don't think she'd bail him out?" I asked.
"No. No I don't think so."
I nodded and focused my attention back to Athena. She looks so peaceful, I felt a small smile stretch my features when I noticed her waking up. "That wasn't a dream, was it?" She grumbled out.
"Sorry baby girl." I confirmed.
"Thought so." She took a deep breath and sat up on the couch. "Charlie? How long was I out?" She asked confused.
"Not long, maybe fifteen minutes." I told her as I pulled her close to my side. "How are you feeling?" I asked cautiously.
"Like my entire life is a lie." She muttered. "Really though, I don't think I even care. I mean, yeah I wish I could have known my father, but I'm also kinda glad the Kyle isn't my dad you know? Like, I've always hated referring to him as such, and now I really don't have to. I think, I don't I think that makes me happy. I'm happy that the guy who treated me worse than dirt isn't the man that was meant to protect me from everything you know? I mean, he's still my uncle so it's still so fucked up, but I don't know...I think I feel better." She explained with a disbelieving smile on her face.
"How do you feel physically?" Dad asked her with concern.
"I feel fine." She smiled and I let out a small breath of relief.
"Okay, now you have to stop fainting baby girl." I told her with a small chuckle. I said it as a joke, but I really really mean it.
"I'll do my best." She joked with me.
"So someone actually bailed him out? Someone wanted him to be free?" She asked, sadness touching her tone for the first time.
"Yeah baby girl. I don't know who would do that, but he has to be on an ankle monitor remember?" I tried to comfort her.
