The coffee shop

Nik's POV-

I got all of my homework done before my mom got me from school. The first thing she did when I opened the door was ask what every mom asks "How was your first day? Did you make any friends? Do you have any homework? Are they nice?" 

"Mom one question at a time please, it was fine and I have already done my homework waiting for you." I say avoiding the other question. 

"It'll get better honey, you have the rest of the semester to make friends. The first day is always the hardest."

"Thanks mom. How was your first day at work?" She was quiet for a moment before she said 

"It was great! It's gonna be better pay too!" I just shake my head and laugh. "What?" She says pulling into the driveway. 

"Nothing. It's  just a good change to see you happy. After.." I still tear up just thinking about it. 

"It's okay honey. I know. I think a fresh start is what we need." 

"Yeah. I hope so." I give her a small smile and grab my bookbag out and enter the house and mom gets started making dinner, hot dogs and mac & cheese. It was my favorite when I was little.

-Before you say anything I know its super cheesy and not very filling keep in mind we just moved in and haven't really unpacked very much or had time to go shopping-

I keep thinking about today. How I kept feeling like someone was looking at me. I don't know maybe I'm just being paranoid. I didn't realize I was spaced out until my mom was at my bedroom door telling me to go wash my hands and come down to eat. "Okay, I'll be down in a minute" I say. I get up  and go to the bathroom to wash my hands.

"So. I  was thinking since I'm gonna be making more money and I still have your money from the accident... Maybe you can get a car so you don't have to wait to get a bus route or for me to pick you up every day." 

"Mom, we could use the money for so many other things. Put it in a savings account or something. Are you sure?"

"You have your license and I have some money aside for emergencies and you don't have to buy a new fancy car, we can go to a used car lot I found, and there is a coffee shop across the street from it we can grab a coffee after." 

"Oh my gosh mom you are the best! I love you, I don't know what I would do without you." She just laughs and says "put your plate in the sink and we'll go before it closes." So I take both our plates and put them in the sink and we get in the car. We get there and I pick out a small silver Honda. It had little mileage and didn't cost as much as I expected it to. It's perfect and I have money to save for emergencies. We get in our cars and go to the coffee shop. The guy tells us to sit anywhere it looks like his name-tags says 'Bob'. I ask mom where she wants to sit and she picks a small both in the back. As we go I feel eyes staring and I look and it's some kids I think go to my school but I'm not quite sure though. We sit down and just talk for a minute. My mom gets up to go to the bathroom. One of the kids from school, I think, gets up and walks up to me with one of the guys she was sitting with, while the other is sitting there horrified. He's kinda cute. 

"Hey. Your new in town right?" The girl bluntly says with a smirk on her face. 

"Um. Yeah. Hi, I'm." Is all I get out before she says 

"Nik Davidson right? We have math together I think." 

"Um. Yea I think so." 

"Anyways Jenny ask him." The guy looks at her and nudges her elbow. 

"Ask me what?" I say kinda confused. Then the boy just says 

"Fine you make me do everything Jenny. We wanted to know if you would like to eat lunch with us tomorrow. Since you have at least one of us in your classes. Oh and I'm Luke and the boy over there is Jamie." 

"Um okay. Sure." I smile and Jamie looks right at me and his face turns bright red. Hmmm. Maybe a fresh start is what we need. They walk back over to Jamie and he looks like he is so embarrassed. Just then mom comes back and she has also gotten us both coffee. 

She smiles and says "So who was that?" She smiles. 

"Some kids from school."

"Ah, what did they want?" I wait a minute and say " they wanted to know if I wanted to eat lunch with them tomorrow." 

"And??? Nik what did you tell them?!" Her smile is so big it makes me smile. 

"Of course I said yes. I think you were right. A fresh start is gonna be good."
