The siren poses a threat only to the inexperienced sailor. They typically lure their prey near with beautiful songs of passion and lovely voices that each man hears differently according to his tastes. Often hiding in self-generated mists, once the sailor is close enough, the terrifying creature lunges forward to chomp his neck and drag him to the watery depths.
Sirens are easily avoidable if one simply pays attention. While the illusion magic in the song and mist muddles the mind, utilizing any shock generator can keep sailors focused. This can range from pain, to breath holding, to loud noises disrupting the music. Sirens are not aggressive hunters by nature, and will not excessively pursue any prey.
For the unlucky passenger with an irresponsible captain of the boat, encounters with these beasts can occur. Should you end up in the water with them, death is almost certain; even if you fight off the first one, another will grab you. When they lunge forward to the ship, however, they are vulnerable. They must be airborne and then physically on the ship to grasp their prey. In this time, they have no weapon except their venomous teeth, and can be easily dispatched with any blade or blunt weapon.
Sirens are believed to be relatively intelligent creatures, capable of speaking and reasoning with their prey to get what they want. Some researchers have captured and spoken at length with the creatures. It is believed that they are somehow related to the Koraal Mohrnighans, though the stubborn creatures have never fully confirmed this.
To the experienced sailor, they are no issue. Beach-goers must beware, but in general, just about any able-bodied individual can defeat a siren in battle.
