Electromagnetic Frequency Technologies

Electromagnetic frequencies were only recently discovered to be highly usable, and the possibilities are unknown. The transmitting of information is the primary use so far, though X-Rays have been shown capable of seeing through most organic matter and have potential in the medical field. As they are harnessed more over time, more uses will assuredly be discovered.

For the moment, the main use of RF technology is that of the radio, capable of transmitting voices over a great distance. While this role is typically filled with specialized illusion magic, radio wave manipulation is substantially less expensive and can fill other roles. Sports tournaments can be broadcasted live, governments and organizations can contact each other or output wide-scale messages over a region to radio receivers, and for the wealthier, two-way radios with different frequencies can be used for private communications. These radio-wave systems are typically housed in whole rooms, however, as great power is required.

While reading has become commonplace since the printing press, those who do not receive much formal education can still learn a great deal about the world simply by listening to the radio. The concepts of faraway lands, different peoples and cultures, and the vast expanse of the world are commonly understood now. This has advanced trade a great deal, but also conflict.

There are significant risks associated with these technologies, mainly physical. Being too close to an RF emitter or receiver can physically burn even a dragon, as the burns are not of a heat-based nature. Long-term exposure has detrimental health effects still not yet fully understood, and it has been noted that those who work often on these devices tend not to have male children. This is also not yet understood, though researchers are looking into the negative effects of RF and broader EMF technology.
