Cousins of the Willo-the-Wisp, the Wanderer is a harmless variant that travels roadways, seeking to encounter travelers. They cannot speak or communicate, so no one has ever understood what they want, but they often rush up to travelers they see, stand still for a few moments, and then float away down the road, as if nothing had ever happened. Like they wanted something, but the individual did not have it.
Some have tried to flow them, even as long as a full month, but they only travel roadways. They will cross national boundaries, bridges over rivers, and even travel over water to new lands where underwater paths have been discovered, but they never stop moving. They travel unmolested by any animal or monster in the world, and attempts at capturing them result in the wanderer simply slipping through its confines and continuing on its endless journey.
Maybe someday, we will understand what they want. Or maybe they are just reflections of ourselves.
