A/N: The What Is This Feeling series will be shorter than other chapters since I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket. The chapters after this will be longer.
Valentine's Day had since past and Marinette had long since delivered her gift to Adrien, unknowing whether it'd make it into his hands or not. The thought alone would keep her tossing and turning at night sometimes, but that wasn't the only thing that kept her up at night.
Marinette was still hung up on what she told her friend, Y/N. The words were still fresh in her mind.
"Trust me, if I wasn't so hung up on Adrien, I'd definitely be interested."
Marinette's face flushed whenever she remembered that. She couldn't forgive herself for unintentionally exposing herself like that. She wondered if Y/N still remembered, or it was just some forgotten memory in the back of her mind. Naturally, Marinette couldn't help but wonder what Y/N would think.
Knowing Y/N, she would probably tease Marinette before letting the subject go. Marinette wasn't scared of whether Y/N would judge or not since Y/N had previously expressed her interest in other girls before. Marinette, on the other hand, was known to crush on Adrien and Adrien alone but she couldn't say she wouldn't date a girl. Then again, Marinette couldn't forget what Y/N said in turn.
"I'd date you. You're definitely the coolest, sweetest girl I've ever met."
A bashful smile made its way onto Marinette's face. She wondered if Y/N meant it or if she was just trying to make Marinette feel less embarrassed after what she had said. Regardless of the intention, it gave Marinette a nice, fuzzy feeling in her chest as she replayed the memory.
Coming from Y/N, it's a heck of a compliment. Y/N's always so sweet and thoughtful. She's always there to help and she's always there to make sure everyone's okay. She never fails to make Marinette laugh with a joke or antic. Y/N always tried to make sure Marinette was okay whenever there was an akumatized villain on the loose, and while it was harder to excuse herself, Marinette was touched that Y/N was so concerned.
Still, Y/N was just a friend. Y/N was aware of Marinette's feelings toward Adrien and she was always there to motivate Marinette when it came to confessing her love to him. Of course, with Kagami in the picture, it was getting harder and harder to keep Marinette's morale up. While Marinette's heart sunk at the idea of losing Adrien to another girl, she was relieved because she knew she had good friends by her side, especially Y/N.
It was all so confusing. Marinette wondered why she struggled with the mental gymnastics when everything was so complicated. She didn't know if she should keep fighting for Adrien or should she lose him to somebody else. She didn't know if she should pursue the conflicting feelings she had about Y/N or just try to ignore them.
