Jess POV
The next day came swiftly around. I lay in bed as I started to wake up, thinking about all the packing I had to do today. But before I could start, I had to clarify with mom and dad. I slowly got out of bed and walked to Jack’s room. I needed him to talk about with me, since he had to explain he was leaving again for LA to find his and Jack’s own place.
I slipped into bed with Jack as he started to wake up.
“Good morning” I said quietly laughing at his reaction.
“Hey, how you feeling?”
“Better, you?”
“Im good” he replied stretching.
“We need to go talk to mom and dad”
“I knew that was coming” he sighed. “I don’t know how easy they are going to take it. I mean, they’re kids are telling them they are moving out after almost 19 years”
“I know, but it’s now or never” I said rubbing my eyes.
There was a brief moment of silence whilst we thought things over.
“Alright, let’s do it” Jack said, swinging the covers off him and jumping out of bed. He walked over to his closet and threw a random shirt on with his basketball shorts.
I followed him out of his room and down the stairs where the faint sound of my mom and dad’s conversation could be heard.
“Morning guys! Sleep well?” my dad asked, tapping our backs as we entered with a mug of coffee iin his other hand.
We nodded and sat down on the breakfast bar, helping ourselves to coffee too.
I nodded to Jack to tell them first.
He looked away, sipped his coffee and began.
“Uh mom, dad, can we talk to you about something?”
“Sure kiddo, what’s up?” dad asked, setting his paper down on the table and taking off his glasses.
“Well me and Jack, we are getting older now and we have a lot of good opportunities for our music in LA with our management and stuff. So anyway, me and Jack were talking about it and we were thinking that maybe it’s a good idea for me and him to get our own place in LA.”
God dammit, that was smooth. How was I even going to begin to tell them I was moving in with Cameron?!
They took a moment to register what was said, looking at each other as if they could communicate just by looking at each other. They looked back as us. I braced myself for the worst case scenario.
“That’s great Jack!! LA holds a lot of opportunities for you both and I think it’s a great idea that you’d like to move out. You’re at a legal age so there’s no problem” my mom said smiling. Urgh why didn’t I go first.
“Thanks mom” Jack seemed to be beaming.
“Uh I also have something to tell you” I said smiling. I had to smile otherwise they’d think there was something seriously wrong.
“Well, whilst we were away for magcon, me and Cameron settled things between us and we got back together”
“That’s great! Is that all you wanted to tell us?” my mom asked.
“No uh, he also asked me if I’d like to move in with him”
Again there was a brief moment.
“My babies really are growing up” my mom said, taking off her own glasses and staring into space.
Me and Jack looked at each other silently laughing at the reality hit mom and dad were having that we were growing up and it was our time.
We got up from our stools and helped ourselves to toast ready on the stove. I took mine up to my room and sat on my bed eating it whilst scrolling through twitter.
Life seemed perfect right now. I was moving to LA with my brother to move in with my boyfriend. My mom and dad were happy for me.
Then, it was like my heart stopped beating…
And shattered into a million pieces.
