Chapter 2:Nightmares

Jack J POV

I couldn’t sleep at all. I was really excited to go back to Magcon but mostly because Jack was snoring really loudly. I never get any sleep when he’s over. I just laid in bed staring at the ceiling to help me sleep. But then I could hear Jess in her room, even though her room is two doors down from mine. I knew she was having one of her nightmares again.

 When me and Jess were in the 6th grade she was best friends with this girl called Meghan. I can still remember her now. Light brown hair about rib length, green eyes and tanned skin. She was really pretty. Then I remember coming home one day. I must have been out with Jack and I walked into the living room only to find my dad cowering over my mom and sister. My mom’s arms wrapped around Jess, both of them practically screaming with tears. I picked up the stranded phone from the floor and listened to the previous phone call.

“Good afternoon Mrs Johnson. I am calling with news regarding the Stiller family. At 2:15 earlier this afternoon they were involved in a fatal car accident and I’m sorry to say that none of them made it. If you want any more information then-“ and the line went dead from where my mom hung up. It took a while for the whole family to get used to the new consequences but I was still worried about Jess. She was fragile. Physically and emotionally and it was my duty to protect her. Ever since then, every so often she gets nightmares about it.

I slowly got out of bed, careful not to wake Jack and quietly made my way to her room.  She was tossing and turning in her sleep, like a distressed animal caught in a trap. I knelt beside her bed and gently stroked her head, whispering to her.

 “Shhh, it’s okay I’m here, shhhhh.”

Her eyes flutter open. She had been crying slightly. “I hate it Jack. Why won’t it stop?” She asks, her voice cracks as if she is going to cry.

“It will stop soon I promise.” I reply, looking into her eyes, as I brush her hair out of her face. “Goodnight Jess. I love you.” I kiss her forehead and walk back into my room. Jack is still asleep, still snoring in the same position. He is such a freak but that’s why we are best friends! My eyes start getting heavier until I eventually can’t keep them open…

Jess POV

I woke up a few hours after Jack came into my room to check up on me. He does it a lot, which I don’t mind. I’d rather it be him than my parents…they don’t know as much about it as my brother. It was 3:40am and I knew the boys wouldn’t be awake yet. I mean come on, they’re guys. They were born lazy!

I slowly drag myself out of bed and shower within 5 minutes, before heading downstairs to make pancakes for breakfast. I set them on the kitchen island and head upstairs to wake them. I find them both sprawled on Jack’s bed, pillows on the floor and quilts slowly sliding off them. I pick up their pillows and throw it at them.

“Guys get up come on, we got a flight to catch in two and a half hours.” They roll over, mumbling un-understandable words. “I got pancakes ready-“

“I’M UP!” Jack G shouts, as he jumps up from bed and walks over to the bathroom closing the door behind him.

I glance over at my brother who is still sleeping.

“Jack come on get up, breakfast is downstairs.” I say as I jump in Jack G’s space next to him. He rolls over to face me as the silence is broken by the faint sound of the shower in the background.

He stares into my eyes with a frown of concentration as he brings his hand up to my hair, stroking the side of my temple with this thumb. I could tell he was concerned about me.

“How are you feeling this morning?”

“I’m fine. Actually, it’s been getting better lately.” I say with a smile.

He smiles. “Maybe because you’ve been excited for today to come?”

I consider it for a moment. That’s kind of true…

“Meet ya down stairs for breakfast…don’t be long!” I shout down the hallway to my room.

Ok so this chapter was kind of a filler and it explains an important part of the story so yeah...Jess has had a rough past, but will this affect her in the near future?

I know it might seem pretty boring at the moment BUT PLEASE WATCH FOR NEW CHAPTERS BECAUSE I PROMISE THEY GET BETTER
