"Who's Derek?"

"We're too old for curfews." Maxine sighed, having been informed of the sheriff's plan to reduce the chances of another attack. The noise she made forced her to breathe slowly, as it had put pressure on her hurt side.

"Still hurting?" Theo asked, caressing her shoulder through her jumper. It was soft, and he had insisted she had worn it so that she could keep warm. She hummed in reply. At least this time she had got hurt it wasn't because of her miscoordination.

"It's only until the animal that killed that girl is caught." Stiles told them, wishing him and Lydia could be like the couple. But to his dismay, she had Jackson, and barely fluttered her eyes in his direction.

"How do they know it was an animal?" Max hinted at Stiles, they both knew there were things far more viscous than mountain lions patrolling the reserve. She raised her eyebrow, leaving Stiles chewing on his lip as he tried not to reveal anything in front of Theo. One of them deserved a normal life.

"Are you saying the killer is human?" Theo was confused. He hadn't thought of the 'murder' that way, and still wasn't sure he could. A person couldn't rip another in two, or at least not without tools, but none had been mentioned in the updates.

"It's possible." She also was contemplating this. There had to be a reason Scott and Stiles were so interested in this particular case, especially with everything they had going on. "I mean Henry VIII beheaded his wives. That wasn't humane in the slightest, so the same could be said in this instance."

"So she's somebody's wife?" Max gave a light tap to the back of his head, knowing he was attempting to lighten the mood.

"No." She answered. It wasn't that anecdote. "She's somebody's victim."

"Have I ever told you how dark your mind is?" Stiles asked her, earning a kick to his shin beneath the table. "Ow. And violent?"

"Why are you being violent?" Scott arrived and sat down next to Stiles and across from his sister.

"Because he sucks." Without looking at each other, Max and Theo high fived each other at her retort.

"I gotta go and get the car keys from Tara. I'll see you in a bit." Theo bid farewell, not forgetting to kiss his girlfriend on the cheek before he departed.

"Aw how sweet." Stiles teased. "Ow, again, really?"

"I can't believe that dude was in your room." Maxine frowned at Scott's poor choice of words. If other people were listening, they may have assummed Stiles was interested in someone more masculine than Lydia. "He needs to stay away from people I care about. First Allison, and then you, it's not cool."

As their complaining about this 'dude' continued, Maxine wondered if they had forgotten about her presence. She sat silently, waiting for the perfect moment to interject.

"Derek is a little creepy." Stiles admitted, him breaking into his room serving as evidence.

"Who's Derek?" Her curiousity did not thrill either of the boys. It instead worked them up even more about this guy.

"Stay away from him." Scott warned her. "Since you know parts, I'll fill you in. He's the guy whose whole family burned in their own house. Derek Hale. And he's like me, except he knows how to control himself on full moons. It's weird, and he doesn't want me playing lacrosse Saturday."

"He also threatened to kill you if you played." Stiles added, not doubting the werewolf's compromise.

"I agree with the not playing bit." As he looked confused, Maxine reminded him by pointing to her ribs, making her brother feel guilty. "So... when do I get to meet the mysterious guy from the woods? At your funeral?" Neither of them liked that question.
