Now she wasn't alone, quite the opposite in fact. The alpha had made himself known, and when she turned, a gasp escaped her lips. It was the guy her mum had went on a date with. He had wriggled his way into a part of her life without her even knowing.
"You're the alpha." It was a statement she hated. As he opened his mouth to speak, she subconsciously flinched at seeing his teeth, even if they were those of a human. A part of her had hoped he wouldn't answer the calls she had made into the wild. It was unnerving to have him chase after her, let alone be involved in a conversation with him.
"Yes I am little wolf." She shuddered at the nickname, wanting to get straight down to facts. "How is my newest beta fairing?" A growl left Maxine, but the man only laughed at her youthful aggression.
"I'd be better if you hadn't turned me." Maxine clenched her jaw, stopping her canines from pushing through her gums. "Why'd you do it?"
"You'll realise when you're older that when you see an opportunity, you take it." An opportunity! She was a girl, with a mum, a brother, a boyfriend and friends and that was all he thought of her! There'd be people killing in the world to take the opportunity of becoming a werewolf; he could have picked any one of them. Instead he chose Scott and her.
As this all tumbled through her mind, the adrenaline in her veins only increased. Out came her claws and jagged teeth, as well as her unusual eyes. Although the man had seen them the previous night, he remained taken aback at the peculiarity. Through his life he had never heard or seen such a thing.
The she wolf lunged at her creator, only to end up pinned to a tree by her neck. A sense of fear flashed through her glowing eyes, and the murderer only peered closer into them. "Such pretty eyes. But they don't add up to the lore. Red is for alphas and yellow for betas, you seem to be somewhere in between."
Last night he had also realised that none of her human features had changed, minus the obvious. Her face was still smooth, free of any creases or excessive hair. He didn't know when he bit her that she would turn out to be such an anomaly.
"Monsters make monsters." When he slowly released her from his supernatural grip, she gave him one last ambient glare before scampering off. Peter was left confused.
Fingers clicked in front of Maxine's face, bringing her out of her own hoarding mind and into the real world. Stiles sat there, licking his dry lips as he looked at her across the kitchen table.
"Scott, she's out of it." Scott came over at Stiles' clarification, clearly unhappy with his sister's scandalous trip out to the woods. "I'm gonna call Theo and tell him she's home." He left the kitchen, allowing the siblings some privacy.
"That was a stupid thing to do!" Raking his hands through his hair, he glanced down at the chair Stiles had just abandoned, opting to remain standing to give himself some higher ground. "Peter's dangerous. You shouldn't have been looking for him!"
"His name's Peter?" Her arms dragged along the wooden surface as she came to stand, leaning closer to her brother. "Funny. You see, I didn't know that because you've been keeping things from me."
Scott rolled his eyes, agitated with her stubborn behaviour.
"I was trying to protect you!" He shouted at his sister, who clearly wasn't having any of it.
"Protecting me how? By letting me get bit?" Silence ensued after Maxine put the blame on her brother. Deep down she didn't mean that, but a part of her wanted to be trusted. Keeping her in the dark wasn't fair, she was a part of this now, even if she'd prefer not to be. "I'm sorry." She muttered.
"It's okay. You're right." A shy smile prowled on Scott's mouth. He gulped, pulling his sister into his arms, resting his chin on her lower head. "This never should have happened to you."
"We'll get through it together Scotty." The front door opened, indicating that Stiles had let Theo inside. In a rush he came into the room, more relieved than he had ever been to see her.
"Thank god."
Maxine had wandered off in Macy's, cheaply looking through the dresses that were hung in an organised manner. And then she smelt someone. Peter. He had just spoken to Allison and was making his way towards Max.
"Going to the school formal little wolf?" His hands shuffled through the dresses, taking the red one she was holding and putting it back amongst the others. "That would clash with your eye."
"Well I'm not going to be showing it off." She retorted, picking it up only for Peter to place it back again.
"Now this is a pretty piece." Peter held a light pink dress by the hanger, it had waves at the bottom and an all concealing top. Maxine admittedly thought it was nice and simple, but she wouldn't take the alpha's word for it. "It would look appealing with Theo's regular black suit. I saw him a few shops down with Stiles. Think he also got you a corsage that matched the colour of this very dress."
"Stay away from him." There was no point questioning how he had became accustomed to all of their names. He lurked, and they had only recently realised who he was, meaning he could have been following them before and they'd have been to oblivious to have known.
"I won't hurt your boyfriend Maxine. Not if you follow the rules." Peter began to walk through the shop, the dress in his hand.
"What rules?" She trailed after him like an obediant puppy, hoping neither Allison or Lydia saw them.
"You'll see in due time." He was at the cashier, placing the dress down on it and pulling bills out of his wallet. Maxine wanted to push him out of the glass walls that were in the mall, but she knew if she did, Theo would get hurt.
"I'm not wearing that." She stated as he paid for it, and he waved the woman behind the cash register off when she asked if he was sure.
"Follow the rules young McCall."
