Maxine walked in the preserve, alone for all she knew. Her eyes engaged with the moon that loomed over and through the trees, feeling a pull. She wanted to walk to it and converse with the great glowing eye, but she knew that was impossible. Its glare was impossible to look away from, and she found herself not wanting to. It was as if they were supposed to be together. But the moon had to say goodbye as it was replaced with a fiery orb, that soon also blurred.
The McCall threw herself up into a sitting position in her bed, her legs covered with the duvet. The material rubbed against the bandage she had strategically looped around her ankle. It tickled at most, the scorch had left. She sighed at this, pulling the pastel blue sheets from her body to inspect the wound. Blood still struck out against the white, but underneath her skin was smooth and supple, as if she had never been bitten. Perhaps that was just a part of her dream...
Her hands threw themselves against her ears as a ringing echoed inside their canals. It was so loud. She searched under her pillow for the screaming device, throwing it at the opposite wall and letting the battery eject itself. And then silence, and a steady drum.
The drum didn't stop. It remained at the same pace and only got closer. She followed its location with her eyes. It was coming from outside. On instinct she opened her window, seeing Theo walking in the direction of the front door. For some reason, she had an urge to jump from the second floor, and absurdly she trusted her gut.
As she let gravity drag her to the ground, surprisingly landing on her feet, she made Theo jump and whirl around to see no other than Maxine.
"I'd ask how you're feeling, but I'm pretty sure you just answered that." He smirked as her cheeks glowed pink, blaming the bite for her actions.
"I've never felt so refreshed." She admitted sheepishly, still not being a fan of what she was becoming. Looking above, she was disappointed to see the sun gleaming in all of its glory. The moon was resting, and the girl could not help but think of her dream.
"That's one good thing." Theo took a hold of her arms, pulling her in the other direction of her home, thinking his words might distract her.
"I'm in my pyjamas." Maxine stated, although Theo was well aware.
"So?"
"It's beautiful." They were stood on a bridge above a river. He had led her through the woods to get here, pushing through his own fears of having seen the alpha run into it that one night.
"Be quite, don't say anything. Take it all in and listen." Theo stood behind her, smiling to himself as she shut her eyes, her eyelashes tickling her cheeks and focusing on her hearing.
The breeze whispered her name, gently lapping at her lobes. Its voice was gentle, sending small ripples on the top of the water. In response, the leaves rattled lightly, massaging her head with the sound. She could hear the birds whistle from their nests, asking their mothers to return home so that they could feed.
"It's incredible." Maxine informed him, her eyes moving behind her lids.
"See, being a werewolf won't be that bad." And his nature that made her see the parts of life she didn't want to adjust to was why she loved him. Sure he could be cocky when he pleased, but it was all a part of the package.
