After we get home from the disastrous day the boys had, I flop down onto the bed and reach for my phone. I haven't listened to Funny Girl in a few weeks, and so I turn on my show tunes playlist.
Finn walks into the room, pizza box and nacho cheese Doritos in hand, rolling his eyes good naturedly at the music selection of choice. Finn prefers classic rock, but over the years, he has come to appreciate musical theater. "Pepperoni, extra cheese, and garlic?"
"Yes, Rach, I know your pizza order. I also brought Doritos which makes me the best husband ever," he smiles, joining me on the bed.
I smile as a song I sang in Dear Evan Hansen plays, Anybody Have A Map. That was such a sweet show and I loved it and my role as Connor's mom. Finn notices I sing the part of the song and looks at me in a way that says he wants information.
"This is Anybody Have A Map from Dear Evan Hansen, which was my third show, I believe. It was great. I played Connor's mom, so I had a pretty big role. My first show was Hamilton, in which I played Eliza and Jesse played King George III. I was also in Beetlejuice as Barbara, Heathers as Veronica's mom, and my last show was Mean Girls on Broadway, as Cady's mom. Oh, and I also starred in a Funny Girl revival a couple of years ago," I explain to my astonished husband. What can I say, I keep busy. "I also recorded three albums with everyone, starred in a couple of actually good TV shows, some great movies, and did end up winning my Emmy, Tony, and Grammy awards you were always telling me I'd get one day. Oh, and Kurt and I taught the New Directions the year after you died."
"Well, as much as I'd like to say I'm astonished you managed all of that in ten years, this is the Rachel Barbara Berry we're talking about here, who needs to be overworked or she gets stressed. But damn, what is that, six Broadway shows, one teaching gig, three albums, all kinds of major awards, TV shows, and movies. All while having a husband and two kids. That's insane," Finn kisses my forehead and looks at me lovingly.
"It was a lot of work, but, hey, it was definitely worth it. Would've been better with you, though," I smile again, noticing that I haven't touched my first slice of pizza yet. This is insane, so I grab one and start eating over the rose gold bedspread. I'm going to make a mess and get a new bedspread because I truly don't like this one anymore.
"Yeah, being dead would've been more fun with you too," he cheekily smiles. I unlock my phone and open my photos app, where I have a gallery of photos of Finn, Finn and I when we were alive.
"Look what I have!" I exclaim, handing the phone as best I can, considering I have a mouth full of pizza.
He chuckles slightly at my excitement before looking at my phone, a sad smile forming on his face as he realizes what's on my phone. This whole room could use a makeover, I think, eating my second slice of pizza. Hey, I worked out somewhat for the past three days, so I've earned all of this.
"Babe, we look so young and energetic," Finn notes, smiling sadly at the pictures. I'm happy to say I didn't get a nose job, but I definitely considered it.
"I know, but we were in high school. You were The Quarterback (A/N: I'm watching that episode rn so it's missing Finchel hours) and I was the bullied girl who just kinda went to a therapist and ranted for several hours. Together, we somehow make a perfect combination, like Broadway and karaoke," I look at him happily.
"Well then our kid will be perfect. That reminds me, when is the doctor's appointment for the kid?" Finn asks, smiling as he flips through the photos.
"Next week, on Wednesday. Can you make it?" I ask, smiling.
"Yeah, I can. I'm not missing this for the world," he smiles at me before kissing me sweetly.
