The Marauders were very tense today, they payed little attention in lessons, barely ate anything at meal times and barely talked to any of their friends. Lily grew anxious, normally she couldn't shut the Marauders up and now she was lucky if she got a single word out of them. They were currently sitting in the boys dorm Sirius was cuddling tightly with a panicked Silver, Peter and James were sat on James' bed helping Peter with his transfigurations homework although their minds were elsewhere. Lily was watching over James and Peter ensuring the work was correct. Remus was pacing around the room unable to sit still. Lily was confused about their irregular behaviour but didn't mention it, "It's getting late, I'm going to head to bed, goodnight." She waved them off as she made her way out of the dormitory.
"We have ten minutes till we need to leave, Moony." Silver spoke calmly from Sirius' bed trying to suppress the worry that was filling her. Remus grunted in response and continued pacing around the room. "You guys don't need to come you know. I've done it for years, you don't need to risk your lives for me." James scoffed from his bed, Peter jumped at the sudden noise before continuing to pack away his homework. "Moony, we are coming with you tonight, whether you like it or not." James spoke sternly. Remus nodded reluctantly, "I'll head down now so no one sees a big group of us and gets suspicious. Just touch the knot of the Whomping Willow and it will freeze it. Then climb down the hole at the base of its trunk and it will lead you down a path to the shrieking shack." Remus left the dormitory and made his way down to the shrieking shack.
"Well, are you guys ready?" Silver said lifting herself off the bed escaping Sirius' grasp. The boys nodded, "Wait, I have something that can help." James called and began searching through his trunk. He pulled out an old tattered robe, "James you're not going to need a robe, you'll be a stag soon." Silver rolled her eyes. Sirius chuckled upon seeing the robe, "Silver, thats not just any robe, it's and invisibility cloak." Silvers eyes widened as she stared down at the cloak, she flipped it over her shoulders and instantly disappeared. "How have you had this and not told me? We will be having a chat later, young mad!" Silver scowled to James now removing the cloak from her shoulders. Together they subtly made their way out of the common room the invisibility cloak over their heads.
"Quiet, we're nearly outside." James whispered altering the cloak that was covering the four of them, which was proving to be very difficult due to the height of the boys. Ivy clutched close to Sirius' side while Peter clung to her side. James held the cloak above their heads looking around to see if anyone else was out on the grounds, satisfied there was no one in sight, he removed the cloak from the group and tucked it under his arm. "Ok so you guys wait here, I'll go freeze the tree." James spoke confidently as he turned in the direction of the nightmarish tree.
"What do you think you are doing out this late?" An icy voice rose from the darkness, the group snapped their necks round to see a dark, greasy haired boy staring down his hooked nose at them. "Silver? What are you doing out here?" The boys acidic voice softened to one full of love and protection. "Oh shove off, Snivellus. Just leave us alone, haven't you done enough." Silver shot back now standing in front of her friends staring down her brother with a cold, emotionless glare. Snapes face became one of hurt and betrayal, his eyes filled with pain as he watched his sisters expressionless face. "Silvy, I've said I'm sorry what else can I do?" The girl rolled her eyes "Don't call me that!" turned away from the boy, now ignoring his presence. "Severus, why don't you just go back to your vile friends." James spat, a look of disgust on his face.
"I'll leave after you tell me what in Merlin you're doing here." Sirius grinned wickedly to James. He walked up to the boy eyeing him suspiciously, "Well Sevy, we were just coming down to meet Remus. He's in the bunker under the Whomping Willow, why don't you go find him?" Silver, James and Peter shot him alarming looks but stayed silent. As long as he didn't know about Remus' problem and how to freeze the tree, Snape wouldn't be able to get down there.
