Professor Slughorn stumbled into the classroom with a large cauldron of pink liquid. Immediately the previously chaotic room fell silent as he carefully placed the cauldron onto his desk as the front. "Good morning, class. Today we will be studying the Amortentia potion, does anyone know the effects and characteristics of the potion?"

Silvers hand shot up as always causing Sirius to chuckle. "Miss Snape, could you share with the class what it is." Silver nodded and stood from her seat, "Amortentia is a very advanced potion. Being the strongest love potion in the world that causes a powerful infatuation or obsession in the drinker. It is distinctive for its mother-of-pearl sheen and spiralling steam. Its scent is multi-faceted and varies based on what attracts that person." Slughorn nodded and turned to the class before adding, "Excellent Silver, ten points to Gryffindor. Powerful infatuations can be induced by the skillful potioneer, but never yet has anyone managed to create truly unbreakable, eternal, unconditional attachment that alone can be called love. Would Miss Snape like to come up here and share what she smells?"

Silver smiled and nodded, she slowly walked to the front of the classroom and looked into the pearly pink liquid. She inhaled deeply allowing the scent to fill her senses, she lowly tried to pick apart each individual scent. "I smell strawberries, leather and honey." She looked up to see Sirius grinning widely with a smug look plastered on his face. Silver rolled her eyes upon seeing James and Lily's excited reactions, her gaze turned to Remus and Peter who were sending her playful looks with raised eyebrows. "Very good Miss Snape. You may return to your seat and Mr Black would you care to go next?" Sirius winked to Silver as he got up and approached the cauldron. He copied Silvers actions and allowed the potion to take over his senses. "There's caramel, vanilla, rose petals and jasmine." He instantly looked up to see Silver imitating his smug look, he grinned to her sending her another wink. James was staring at him with a smile on his face and sent Sirius a thumbs up. Remus and Peter were grinning at him widely. Lily broke out into giggles as she smiled to him.

"Mr Potter, as a valiant student would you like to go next?" As predicted he smelt his mother's chocolate chip cookies, broomstick polish and Lily's unmistakable scent of lilies. The room broke out into chuckles but none loud enough to mask Lily's scoff. "Miss Evans if you find this so funny, would you mind having your turn?" Lily blushed hard and lowered her head as she walked up to the cauldron. She inhaled the scent and listed off them as she identified them, "The library, fresh seawater and -" She paused and rolled her eyes whispering, "Broomstick polish." James' face lit up upon hearing her whispers, Silver and Sirius exchanged excited glances while Remus wolf-whistled.

"Ahhh Mr Lupin, thank you for the volunteer." He smelt chocolate, butterbeer and a sweet scent of peppermint which everyone apart from him realised was the familiar scent of Ivy. Peter had smelt roasted garlic and burning wood that reminded him of home. Severus had smelt the scent of lillies, rose petals and newly brewed potions. Tillie smelt the scents recognised to be mint, citrus and the scent of Regulus' aftershave. Ivy of course smelt Remus' distinct smell of chocolate, daisies and old books.

"Wonderful class. Now for your homework, I want each of you to go and use your home potions kit and in pairs you must brew a antidote potion to cure a common poison. The best potion will win a prize, I will not disclose the prize yet but it will be one you'll all want to win. I have been conducting this competition with varying potions for years and I'll most likely be continuing it for many more years." He chuckled to himself before packing the potions set away. He dismissed the class and turned back to his desk.

"What do you think the prize is?" Ivy asked at the dinner table that night. Sirius shrugged shoving another forkful of food in his mouth, "Probably some sort of useful potion." Silver giggled as she wiped away a bit of mashed potato from his chin. "I don't know but we're obviously going to win it." Lily chimed in and high fived Silver. Sirius and James dropped their forks and looked at the girls in shock.
