Chapter Fifty
Step

I'm finally seeing what I wanted the commercial property to be. In just a week or so, matatapos na siguro ito nila Jayden.

I removed my hard hat when I made sure I'm a few distance away from the building. Even when it's soon done, Jayden still urged me to wear one.

As I wanted the workers not to push themselves too hard, sinabi kong bukas na lang nila ituloy. It's summer and the heat isn't bearable. Not even for them.

His face is serious but fresh even when sweating.

"Electrical wiring and installation will start tomorrow," he explained formally. "It's best not to go here."

Tahimik akong tumango.

"You're going home?" he asked.

"Yeah."

Tumango siya sa akin. "Wait for me. I'll drop you home."

I didn't respond.

"Do you want to eat something?"

He didn't accept it until we went to his car.

I kept my mouth shut and looked over the window.

"Hello?" rinig kong banggit niya. "Yeah, I remember... Right... It's about to finish... Okay... Book us a flight to New York then... I'll see you."

I'm thankful I wasn't looking at him because I halted at what I've heard.

New York? He's leaving?

He drove his car when he ended the call. I rested the back of my head on my seat.

"Almira."

I bit the inside of my cheek. "Yeah?"

"I'm offered a job in New York," he let out.

I bit my lower lip as my pace weakened. Hindi ko siya nilingon.

Is that what the call is indeed about? He's leaving?

"So what?" I asked nonchalantly.

I felt him glance at me. I tilted my head more sideways, opposed to where he is sitting so he can't sight my face. I even untucked the hair behind my ears para lang hindi niya madungaw ang mukha ko.
