chapter 34 ~ best if you don't assume
ADRIENNE

Despite going to the amusement park only yesterday, I scheduled plans to meet up with Mia before school to go eat breakfast. Being the breakfast-fiend she is, of course she agreed.

"You know, if I didn't love hash browns and coffee so damn much, I would've stood you up right?" Mia says as she takes a huge bite into her fourth hash brown.

"Yeah, yeah. But I know all of your weaknesses," I chuckle somewhat evilly, "How have you been?"

"Pretty good. I don't have anything to complain about considering that Tyler treats me like a queen." She chuckles, lifting her cup of coffee up to take a sip.

"Aw, I'm so jealous of you two." I joke. Lifting a chocolate chip cookie to my mouth, I take a big bite of the semi-warm sweet.

"Ah don't be, girl!"

"I'm just kidding, Mia. I'm so happy for you two." I say, meaning every word I say.

"I just... love him so much. Like when I first met him, I thought it was only going to be a no-strings attached kinda thing. But then, before I knew it- before we knew it, we both fell for each other. Hard." She gushes. Every time Mia mentioned anything about Tyler, her eyes would light up and a smile would take over her face.

"Enough about me," she says as she breaks out of her ramble, "What about you? Anything going on with you, girl?"

"So, I told you about what happened with Kai and I right?" I bring up.

"Uh-huh."

"Did I tell you that he just suddenly left town without any prior notice?"

"No way! Did he actually?" By the grimace on the face, Mia could already figure out the answer to her question without me answering.

"Girl, that's such a not-Kai thing to do. Confesses then ditches? That's a new low." Mia rants angrily, forgetting about the half-eaten hash brown on her plate.

"How you feeling, girl?" She suddenly asks worriedly.

"Been better. The initial shock wore off, but it still hurts, y'know?" I explain. What I was telling Mia was completely true. Kai's sudden leave hurt like hell, but it was as if Alec swooped in yesterday and mended my broken heart.

"Oh no, baby girl." Mia whispers gently, placing her hands on top of mine to let me know that she's here for me.

"It's just... I guess someone else helped me feel happier." I bring up. Unconsciously, a smile makes its way onto my face at the thought of yesterday's events.

"Ooh, spill!" She chirps, almost knocking her coffee over in the process.

"Alec came to visit me yesterday," Mia's jaw falls open, "He was wondering why I wasn't at school. When I told him that I was just tired, he proceeded to drag me to the amusement park. We went on a lot of rides, we had a lot of fun."
