Queen Clumsy, Chapter 21 ~ Friends with Benefits... but not really
After my awkward encounter with Alec, I wiped my salty tears dry and headed back to where the others were. Once I got back, I went straight to striking up a conversation with Kai and ignoring Alec. Despite all of this, I could still feel Alec's burning stare drilling holes in the back of my head.
By the time Kai and I finished talking about whales, the sun was beginning to set, so we decided to pack things up and call it a day. As we were getting ready to leave, I continues to walk right next to Kai, so I didn't have to talk to Alec.
On the car ride back, I whined and whined until Kai let me have the window seat. However, I kinda felt bad now that he had to sit in the middle, and he barely had any room for his long legs. I didn't even have to look at Alec to know that he didn't care.
And that was how our day ended. In silence.
The moment I woke up for school on Monday, I could already feel a sense of dread creeping down my neck. 1) It's Monday. 2) I'm not excited to see Alec - who's supposed to be my friend.
At this point we're not even friends.
How did we go from annoying each other to friends, then to whatever he calls that, and then back to friends, and finally to strangers? Our relationship was mess, and I was too damn tired to figure it all out.
Trudging out of my safe haven AKA my bed, I slugged my way to my wardrobe for today's depressing outfit. Pulling a gray knitted sweater and a pair of dark blue jeans, I headed for the bathroom to shower. After exiting the shower, I pulled my clothes on, grabbed my backpack, and headed downstairs for breakfast.
It wasn't until I got downstairs until I realized that me slugging my way around the house has gotten me late, 4 minutes to be precise, and first period had already started.
"MOM!" I yell, worry creeping up on me. When nobody answers, I rush up stairs and into my mom's bedroom. A sigh of relief escapes me when I see her curled up in her bed, dead asleep. Lately, she's been working so hard that she barely had time to rest. After making sure that Aiden was at school and didn't miss his bus, I walked over to Mom and shook her awake.
"Mom." I say softly when her eyes flutter awake. Unlike my dull brown eyes, she had gorgeous jade green eyes.
"Adrienne!" My mom yelps when she realizes that she fell back asleep after walking Aiden to the bus stop.
