chapter 36 ~ by your side
ALEC
Back and forth.
Tap, tap, tap.
Time passes as I continue pacing back and forth in the hospital hallway, hearing my footsteps tapping against the tiles accompanied by the beeping noises from the various machines.
Fear floods my veins as I recall what happened two hours prior.
I remember how after letting out a cry, I quickly pulled out my phone to dial 911.
I remember the grueling 20 minutes waiting for the ambulance to arrive, wondering if this time wasted could be crucial to Adrienne's health.
I remember when the ambulance finally came, they picked up Adrienne's light body and placed her on the stretcher.
I remember how as the ambulance sped its way to the hospital, I sat next to her in the ambulance, holding on to her small hand the whole way there. Silently, tears began to slip out of my eyes as I look at how lifeless Adrienne looked.
The entire way to the hospital, I made sure to not look away from her and not let go of her hand.
"Alec!" A voice calls out, breaking the trance I was in. I look up to see a curly redhead jogging down the hallway. When they came closer, I noticed that it was Mia.
"H-hey Mia." I greet her.
"Where is she?" She demands.
"She's in that room," I point at the room I was standing outside of, "With her mom."
"Alec, what happened?" Mia asks, looking up at me with a sorrowful look.
"It's all my fault." I mumble.
"Alec, tell me!" Mia shouts. Avoiding any eye contact with her, I explained through everything that happened.
"Damn it, Alec! Of course Sasha was tricking you!" She shouts after I finished explaining.
"I couldn't risk that!" I shout back.
