chapter 37 ~ as time passes
ALEC

Panicked, I walk to the empty hospital bed, frantically searching as if Adrienne was hidden somewhere in the room.

Fuck, where was she?

I continue to look around the room until a voice interrupts me.

"You're here to see Ms. Daniels, right?" I turn to see one of the doctors that were assigned to Adrienne talking to me.

"Y-yes sir. Where is she?" I ask him.

"Ms. Daniels got transferred to room 615. Take the elevator up, then turn right and keep going until you get there." He informs me.

"Thank you so much." I respond.

"Of course, any time." Giving him a quick wave goodbye, I exit the room to make my way to Adrienne.

After following the doctor's directions, I enter Adrienne's new room. Once I entered her room, I see her lying in the bed in a peaceful trance with complicated machines surrounding her.

Taking a relieved sigh, I take a seat in the loveseat next to her bed and hold her hand gently.

For the next couple of weeks, my daily routine consisted of going to school in the morning, returning to Adrienne's side afterwards, and doing homework until I fell asleep by her side. Every once in awhile, I would take time to hang out with my friends, but I made sure to always return to Adrienne's side by the end of the night.

Before I knew it, it was already late April. Prom, graduation, and the senior trip were coming up, and I was afraid that Adrienne would miss the most important parts of her high school career.

Continuing to hold her hand as much as I could, I could only hope for the time she would wake up.

"Hey, Bitsy. Today is May 5th, and it is currently 4:15 in the afternoon. I took my environmental science test today, and I'm pretty sure I aced it. Mostly because it was about the rock cycle, and I'm Rocky, y'know." I talked to Adrienne, smiling at how she always made fun of my last name.

Talking about my day to Adrienne's unconscious figure had become a habit of mine. Before or after finishing my homework, I would hold Adrienne's hand and give her a summary of my day.
