"Boss, there is an incoming call from Peter Parker."
Startled by the suddenness of the A.I., Tony smacked his head against the underside of the car he had been working on.
"Why would he be calling?" He groaned, rubbing his head.
Tony hadn't spoken to anyone other than Pepper and Rhodey for the last three months. No, he certainly hadn't meant to leave the younger hero hanging after what they'd been through, but after that war at the airport, Tony needed some space.
And Peter wasn't an exception.
Not that Tony didn't want to check in on him, he simply never made the time for it. He busied himself with simple projects, adding details to his suit, and making adjustments where they were needed. Whatever he could do to distract himself.
So for Peter to be calling out of the blue like this, it must've meant it was important.
"Boss, it's urgent." Friday spoke again.
He huffed, wiping his hands off on a rag. "Yeah- put him through."
The quiet crying on the other line was unexpected, and nerves sparked through Tony.
"Peter? Are you there?" He asked.
When Peter didn't respond, Tony became more worried.
"Friday, display his vitals please." He mumbled, rushing over to his work bench.
It was easy to see Peter was in distress, as his heart rate had sky rocketed. Tony was aware that the younger was trying to put together some form of a sentence, however it only came out as choked sobs.
"Sir, there has been an accident. Peter has handled the situation, but is unstable at the moment. I think it would be best for you to aid him in his current state." Karen explained.
"Karen send me his location." Tony said, racing to the platform and retrieving his suit. "Peter, hang on. I'm coming to you."
Peter managed an 'okay' before the line went quiet.
In a haste, Tony arrived at Peter's location in just a few minutes, before he landed slowly next to the younger. Surveying the area, the blood stained sidewalk was the first thing he noticed. The second was Peter lying in fetal position on the ground, crying into the concrete. Fear gripped his chest as he, stepped out of the suit, and made his way to the other.
"Peter?"
He was met with puffy eyes and a tear stained face, that was utterly heartbreaking. Peter's curls were matted to his head from the rain, and was shivering too.
Tony pulled him into a sitting position. "Deep breaths Pete, c'mon." He murmured softly, taking a few himself. "Focus on your breathing."
A while later, Peter's was much calmer, and silent tears raced down his cheeks.
"Can you tell me what happened?" Tony asked.
Peter shivered. "Th-there were robbers. I stopped them, b-ut they were shot. May was shot." He choked out.
Tony's stomach dropped. That news was much worse than expected.
"O-okay, can you stand up? We're going to go back to the tower." Tony asked, grabbing Peter's hand.
The younger shook his head, his curls bouncing wildly. "I need to- to see May. I don't even know where they took her!"
Tony caught the other as he crumbled in his arms, sobbing. "We can't do anything right now, so we'll get back to the tower, and I can figure it out, yeah?"
Peter nodded, removing himself from Tony' grasp. He took the opportunity to step back into his suit. He walked towards Peter, not trusting the other to safely swing back to the tower, and gathering him in his arms.
"Friday, what hospital did they take May to?" He asked her quietly.
"Memorial Hospital Boss."
He kept quiet, focusing on getting them back to the tower safely.
When they arrived, Tony laid him gently on the couch in the lab. It was clear Peter was exhausted, as he snuggled into the fabric, quickly making himself comfortable.
Tony stalked away, leaving his suit in its dock. He carried Peter upstairs, through the living room, and into a guest room.
"Peter, you've gotta get your suit off." Tony mumbled, shaking him gently.
He groaned before pulling at the fabric. Tony helped ease it away from his shoulders. He stifled a laugh at seeing the Iron Man tee the younger had been wearing underneath the suit.
Peter's face flushed slightly as he saw Tony's reaction.
"'M tired-" Peter mumbled, pulling the last of the suit away from his body.
He planted himself on the edge of the bed, curling into the warmth of the duvet.
Tony smiled, shaking his head. "Peter, move up here."
Seeing Peter already drifting off, Tony maneuvered him underneath the blankets, tucking him in. He made his way to the door, shutting the lights off.
"Sleep good Pete."
Tony made his way back downstairs to the lab, plopping into his chair at the desk. He was at a loss in this situation. He had no idea what to for Peter. If he lost May...
God he couldn't bring himself to think about that right now.
"Friday, please update me on any change in May's condition."
She agreed before asking, "Should I inform Peter as well, Boss?"
He wasn't sure how to answer. If something were to happen to May, he didn't want Karen or Friday waking him to tell the news. Any information about her condition would be better coming from himself in the morning. And after the night he'd had, Peter deserved some rest. He could only hope May would be alright.
"No- no. Don't tell Peter anything, under any circumstances."
Tony sighed, rubbing a hand over his face. He wouldn't be able to sleep now. Not when his mind was racing like this. So, he picked up his wrench and pulled himself back under the car, continuing his work.
