Chapter 19; Chained

*Hawks POV*

I could have easily gotten the keys and got out of the chain, but I didn't want to. Not yet. If I did, it wouldn't just be my ass on the line. I didn't know how tight the league was with one another. For all I know, they might slaughter eachother because of Dabi's plan. However, from what Toga had told me, they were like a family. A dysfunctional family, sure, but a family none the less.

I had a lot of time to think things over while shut in the room. Especially since I only talked to people once, maybe twice a day. Dabi finally started coming in, mostly to give me food, but also just to catch me up on what was going down Saturday. But that was all he would talk about.

Now it was Friday, and I only had to wait for a few more hours. Then Dabi would give me the go ahead. However, I had to take the chain with me as well as look like some sort of struggle was made with my escape. Toga knew of the plan now, so the only one who wouldn't be acting would be the girl. Toga said she was too new to be trusted, bond or not.

Of course, this would also mean that I was going to have to make it look like I tried. Toga and Dabi already gave me the go ahead to use feathers to make it look real.

Soon enough, I saw Dabi come into the room with a plate. I had been pacing the table again but stopped when he came in. Placing the plate on the table, I saw that there was some chicken on it.

"Any news on tomorrow?" I asked, picking up a piece of the chicken and popping it in my mouth. It was the first time I ate chicken for a week, but I couldn't savor it.

"Not any new updates, but I need to talk to you about something else." I nodded before sitting criss-cross on the table with the plate on my lap.

"I want you to know that this is a dangerous mission on my part. It could get me and Toga in serious trouble. But I'm not worried about that, Shigaraki knows we are good assets to the league." He paused, looking me in the eye. "But if he knows you are missing, he will come after you. And if he does and doesn't kill you on sight, I can't give you an out next time."

"Why are you giving me an out this time?" I asked. I was genuinely curious, why would he let me go like that?

"We're gonna be even. You didn't tell your people I was there, so now I am keeping you safe from my people." He said simply with a shrug. He started to head towards the door, but I didn't leave him to leave. However, I didn't stop him.

I had the keys in my palm, waiting for Dabi to come in. I had already been sitting there with them for about an hour, but no sign of him.

The door slowly started to open, and I looked up expectedly. However, instead of Dabi standing there, it was Toga.

"Everything's good, but Dabi is currently being held back a bit. You can unlock yourself, but don't leave yet. Wait for a few more minutes, then you can come out whenever." She said, for once not giggling.

I nodded, and she closed the door. I slid the keys into their locks and freed my leg. It was wonderful. I rolled my ankle and stood up. Putting the keys in my jacket pocket, I put on my jacket. Unwrapping the chain, I pocketed it and continued walking laps around the table.

A knock sounded on the other side of the door and I froze. I hid my leg that was supposed to be chained under the table and stared at the table. Slowly the door opened, showing my soulmate peaking in.

"They're gone." He said, and I jumped up and got to the door. He started closing the door before I grabbed it and swung it open so I could get out.

Running down the hall, I didn't hear anyone. Maybe I was actually going to escape without the fight. That was, until I ran into some sort of invisible wall at full speed. Someone laughed behind me, and I turned to see one of the students from UA. Maybe this was her quirk? Probably.

"Akari, what's up?" I heard Toga ask while running into the room. When her eyes locked on me, she sprung into action. Knife drawn and out. However, I was faster. Sliding off to the side, I pulled out one long feathers and held it like a sword.

Lunging at me again, I barley dodged and swung at her. I didn't want to hurt her too bad, but she couldn't just let me go. I had made a small, but very visible, cut on her cheek. She then jumped back, holding her hand to her cheek looking at me with a predatory smile.

Before I knew what was going on, I felt something right at my head. Turning, I barley dodged a small spout of fire.

"Toga, you and Aruna get out of here. I'll take care of him." Dabi shouted at the two girls. It took a bit longer for Aruna to be coaxed out of the room, but as soon as she was out, he grabbed my wrist and pulled me to him.

Throughout my life, no one really gave me any sort of physical affection. However, when Dabi pulled me into his arms, I felt like I was melting. But, like, in a good way. He wrapped both arms around me and held me against his chest. It took a second, but I eventually returned the hug, smiling into his shoulder.

As soon as he let me go, I pushed my lips up against his.

*Dabi POV*

I wasn't ready for it, but I kissed Hawks back, moving one hand to cup his chin. The other arm wrapped around him and pulled him even closer to me as if I would loose him forever if I let him go. The physical heat of the moment was drowned out by actions. I didn't care about anything else in that moment.

I didn't want to pull away, but I did. He had to go before Aruna got suspicious. When I did pull away from him, he smiled at me, pulling me into a hug before letting go of me completely.

"Bye Hawks." I whispered to him as he started to head to the door. "I'll see you as soon as I can, alright?"

With an excited nod, he opened the door and took off into the sky.

I did as well as I could, but I am not the best with these types of things.
