"Hello?" Calum throws the bananas in the shopping cart and keeps looking for the right kind of apples while he holds his phone pressed to his ear. "Ash? Did you forget to write something down? I've only got the apples left now and then I'll be on my way home."
"It's uh...it's Blake." Calum stops walking as soon as he hears this and he completely ignores the annoyed calls coming from the people around him.
"What? Is he alright? What happened? I'll be on my way in a second okay?"
"No it's nothing like that. It's just that you know, the chemo and everything has really...well he's losing his hair, it's started now." Calum suddenly feels like he's been kicked in the stomach, everything suddenly feels so real. Even though he knew this would happen, he knew the chemo would have this effect on Blake, he didn't expect it to. It always felt like this was just a bad dream, like he'd wake up at any moment just to find the four year old asleep on his chest. Now he knows that won't happen, now everything feels painfully real,
"I'll be home in ten minutes." he says before ending the call.

"Calum." Ashton's standing in the driveway when Calum pulls up in front of the house, quickly getting out of the car. "Calum come here, come here it's alright." the slightly shorter man holds his arms out and Calum falls into them, burrowing his head in the crook in Ashton's neck. "shh, it's alright, it's okay." Ashton strokes his back, trying his best to calm Calum down. "it's okay, we knew this would happen, it's just the medicine. Calm down now okay?" Calum nods, still with his arms around Ashton's waist. "He's waiting for you, said something about watching a movie."
"alright, alright okay." after taking a few deep breaths, Calum backs away and turns around to get the groceries in the car. "okay." he's not really talking to anyone anymore, he's just trying to calm down enough to act normal around his son, knowing that Blake will get upset if he thinks something's wrong.
"Daddy?" a small, dark haired boy appears in the doorway connecting the hallway to the livingroom and Calum only has the time to put the bags down before he's attacked. "I missed you so much daddy!"
"I was gone for an hour buddy." he says, laughing as he carries Blake through the livingroom and into the kitchen, where Ashton's now unpacking the groceries.
"but an hour is so long! And I wanna watch the movie about football!" Calum laughs, as does Ashton, and places the boy on the counter. Looking at him, it'd be hard to guess that the boy's fighting an illness as severe as cancer.
"how about this, why don't you go put the movie on and daddy will join you in a minute, I've just gotta talk to him first." Ashton says, lifting Blake down again. Blake nods and runs back into the livingroom and Calum turns to Ash. "you should call Michael, he'll freak out if he finds out we didn't tell him."
"yeah, you're right." Calum nods and pulls out his phone, quickly dialing Michael's number. Ashton leaves the room, probably going to keep an eye on Blake, and Calum waits.
"Calum?"
"Yeah, hi uh..."
"hold on a sec will ya? Excuse me gentlemen but could you all shut up for a moment, no one cares about what you're saying right now and I'm on the phone...good. Alright Calum speak." Calum can't help but smile, he loves how Michael doesn't give a single fuck about how other people think of him.
