“Man I don’t know if I can do this.” Luke keeps pacing back and forth between the big oak tree and the car he got there in. His hands are sweaty and he keeps wiping them on his pants at the same time as he attempts to loosen his tie.
“Luke calm down, you can and you will do this.” Jack walks up to him younger brother and places his hands on him shoulders, stopping him in his tracks. “You’ve been waiting for this Luke, you want this.” he takes the opportunity to fix his brother’s tie before letting go of him again. “And now it’s time, so come on, let’s get over there.” Luke nods and follows his brother over to the altar. In front of him there’s rows and rows, seemingly endless, of people watching him, waiting just like he does. Jack takes his place next to Luke and smiles at him, probably able to hear the beating of the younger boy’s heart. Luke has never been this nervous, this is nothing compared to what he’s felt when they were about to go on stage.
“Daniel.” Luke smiles as the priest appears from somewhere and takes his place to Luke’s right. The, very hairy, man nods but doesn’t say anything, instead he focuses his attention on the book he’s holding, a book Luke assumes is the bible. And so they wait, they wait and Luke isn’t quite sure what they’re waiting for. He looks around, trying to find the people he love the most in the rows of people staring at him, waiting for him to make a fool out of himself. He finds his parents sitting on the first row with the other boys’ mothers and Calum’s dad, and it’s first now that he notices the Ben is standing next to Jack. He can’t see any of the boys though.
~
Music suddenly starts playing and the faceless crowd behind the first row stands up, all of them turning around to stare at the door to the small house in the middle of the field instead of on Luke. Luke stares as well, but who can blame him? He’s the man of the hour and if anyone has the right to stare it’s him.
“Here we go, last chance to back out little brother.” Luke doesn’t take his eyes of the door but he still manages to hit Jack in the balls, getting a slap in the back of the head in return. The door they’ve all been staring at opens, stopping them from getting into a proper fight, and Luke’s heart starts beating even faster as two people appear. They walk down the aisle as if they were walking through water, much too slow for Luke’s liking, and they’re smiling brightly at the people as they walk past them. When they’re halfway down the aisle the door opens again and two other people appear, taking Luke’s attention from the first couple. The new pair seem to move even slower than the first and Luke has to fight the urge to run over to them.
“You look good Luke.” Ashton and Calum finally reaches the altar and they take their place opposite to Jack and Ben. For some reason they’re both wearing dresses, Calum’s is blue and Ashton’s is...Luke can’t remember the name of the colour but he knows he can’t call it light brown because if he does someone will slap him because it is not brown. He can’t see their feet but since they’re both a few inches taller than yesterday he assumes that they’re wearing heels. They’re both smiling at him but Calum’s smile doesn’t reach his eyes and Luke wonders if it has something to do with what’s going on or if he’s just not in the mood.
“You do too.” Luke smiles before turning his attention from two of his best friends to the people that’s still making their way down the aisle. One of them is a rather tall man wearing a suit that looks a lot like the ones Jack and Ben are wearing, a man that, just like most of the people there, appears to be faceless. Unlike the others however, this man gives Luke an uneasy feeling, as if he’s supposed to protect the people he loves from him. He doesn’t spend long thinking about it however, his attention in immediately drawn to the person walking next to the faceless man.
~
Michael’s beautiful. There’s no other way to put it and even if there were Luke wouldn’t try to find other words, it doesn’t matter that Michael thinks beautiful is a word used to describe girls, he’s breathtakingly beautiful as he walks down the aisle to where Luke is waiting. He’s wearing a dress, just like Ashton and Calum, and just like with them Luke can’t see his feet, but somehow he knows that Michael is wearing his normal shoes and not heels like the other two. Luke smiles, how could he possibly do anything else when this beautiful beautiful boy is standing in front of him, and they both visually relaxes when the faceless man lets go of Michael’s upper arm and walks over to a bench five rows back, becoming nothing more than one in the crowd. Michael smiles as well, raising his arm to push the black fringe out of the way, and walks up the steps to the altar, taking his place next to Luke.
“Dearly beloved, we are gathered together here in the sight of God, and in the face of this company, to join together these men in holy Matrimony…” the voice isn’t coming from the priest in front of them, somehow Luke hears it inside his head, but he knows they all hear the same thing and it doesn’t scare him, in fact it doesn’t even surprise him. He does tune it out anyways though, not wanting to listen to words that, with some variations, has been said millions of times by people who probably couldn’t care less about the people in front of them, all Luke wants is to be with Michael, alone, right now. But Daniel is still going at it, his whiskers twitching as he talks to them without opening his mouth, and now it’s finally getting close to the part where Luke gets to speak.
“Luke, do you-”
“I do, I do.” Luke hears the people behind them laugh and someone, probably Ben, wolf whistles but all he cares about is the beautiful smile that spreads across Michael’s face.
“Michael-”
“I do.” Michael squeezes Luke’s hand as the guests laugh again, finding the inpatient couple hilarious. “Now please get on with it.”
~
The ceremony is over and Luke and Michael are standing on their own not far from where Luke was pacing back and forth less than two hours ago. Their hands are intertwined and they’re staring into each other’s eyes, none of them feeling anything but love. Behind them, under a tree, Ashton and Calum are talking to Daniel. All three constantly stops mid sentence though, and looks over at the newly wedded couple. Ashton is genuinely happy for them, having expected this moment ever since they told him and Calum that they were a couple, so for about a week. Calum however, is glaring at them, remembering how he proposed to Luke years ago, remembering how the younger boy shot him down, thinking of it as nothing more than a joke. But now there’s nothing he can do, he’s too late. Daniel simply stares because he wonders when Michael will forget him in the suitcase next, if he’ll accidentally come with them on their honeymoon. But Luke and Michael doesn’t notice, they’re too caught up in their own world, staring into each other’s eyes and thinking about the future.
~~~~~
Luke opens his eyes and sits up, biting his lip as he tries to remember and understand the dream. Why was he dreaming like that? Why did it feel so good and so weird at the same time? Why does he suddenly feel the need to go find Michael?
“No more mexican food, no more.” he whispers to himself as he gets up from the bed and goes to find his band mates.
