~ Yeah...university. That happened.
I hadn't expected it to be quite as time consuming as it turned out to be and really that's why I've been gone for so long. But here I am, this is what I have to offer and hopefully you won't be too upset, you're probably used to me disappearing by now.
Oh and happy halloween to those of you who celebrate it! I don't really but I know a lot of people do so yeah.
This one was requested by @LarryLashtonNom and I really hope you like it! I didn't know how to end it though so sorry about that x /M ~
Another clap of thunder is heard, momentarily drowning out the rain drumming against the windows and a few seconds later a lightning seems to almost split the dark sky in half. Ashton's sitting on his bed, watching the storm through the big windows covering almost a whole wall in the hotel room. His phone is laying on a pillow, Radio Dial coming from the speaker, and he feels so amazingly relaxed, knowing he's safe from the wind and the rain, knowing that he can crawl under the covers whenever he wants and sleep, sleep until the storm is over and the sun is shining once again. He's always loved thunderstorms, always found comfort in them, and today is no exception. They had only just gotten back to the hotel when the rain started falling, something no one had paid much attention to, their focus being on getting something to eat, but not long after that the thunder had started. Ashton had been thrilled when he realised it was coming closer to them and he had wanted nothing more than to get to his room, to get to sit there on the bed and think about all life's big questions, but he could tell the others hadn't shared his enthusiasm. Michael had grumbled something about no internet connection before heading over to his room, probably hoping to load a few films before losing said connection and Luke had said something about being tired before stalking off too, the door to his room slamming closed a few seconds later. Calum had stayed in the hallway a few minutes, talking about the show, and Ashton had only half listened. Yet another clap of thunder had ended the conversation and they had said their goodnights before disappearing into their rooms, Ashton hurrying into the bathroom to shower before the storm reached them. And now he's sitting there, watching the darkness outside as he allows his mind to wander. It doesn't take long before it, as it so often does, wanders down the corridor to one of the rooms they've booked and to the tall blond who's probably sound asleep in there, his head resting on his arm and with one leg hanging off the bed.
~
Little does Ashton know that Luke is wide awake just as he is, only he's not enjoying the storm quite as much as the older man is. Actually, he's not enjoying it at all. Unlike Ashton, Luke's never liked thunderstorms and if anything, it's gotten worse with age, something he's extremely embarrassed about and wouldn't ever tell a living soul about unless he absolutely has to. He had been hoping to fall asleep before the storm hit them, he really tried his hardest to do so, but as always when he tries to fall asleep doing just that seems to be the last thing his body wants to do. And now there he is, sitting on the bed with his back pressed against the headboard and the duvet pulled up to his nose, unable to takes his eyes of the dark sky outside the window. The light next to the bed is on but it keeps flickering, almost as if to let him know it might go out at any second, and his heart is beating faster than it did earlier that night when they'd just gotten off the stage and he still had the crowd's screams ringing in his ears. His eyes are filled with tears and when the light next to him finally does go out they start falling, tumbling down his cheeks to land on the duvet. He tries to calm down, tries to make himself believe that he is safe, that nothing could ever happen to him and that it'll all be over soon, but that only works for a few minutes and soon he's full on sobbing into his hands, his cries still not drowning out the crashes of thunder.
Minutes passes and Luke soon realises he'll never be able to sleep with the storm going on outside, he won't even be able to relax. Desperate for some company, something to calm him, he gets off the bed. After wiping his face on a discarded shirt he finds on the floor and putting another one on he leaves his room, hurrying down the abandoned corridor to the door behind which the oldest member of the band sleeps. Luke knows Ashton loves thunder, he knows he'll find him really silly if he tells him the truth, but he also knows that if anyone's going to calm him it'll be the presence of the man he's been in love with for years. And so, once he's though of a somewhat believable excuse to standing outside his room in the middle of the night, he raises his hand to knock on the door.
~
Ashton almost misses the knock on the door and it takes him a good twenty seconds to realise it actually happened, that it wasn't just another clap of thunder. When he does he wastes no time however, hurrying over to open the door.
"Luke." He makes no attempt to hide his surprise when his eyes land on the tall blonde and he almost immediately gets a concerned look on his face as he notices the tearstains on Luke's cheeks.
"Nightmare" Luke's voice is low, raspy even, and had it not been for the wet cheeks Ashton would have thought it's because he's just woken up. He doesn't however, he's not even sure Luke actually had a nightmare, but he lets him in none the less and leads him over to the bed.
"You want to talk about it?" he asks, moving his phone from the bed to the nightstand and turning the music off.
"No." Luke shakes his head a little, sitting down on the bed. "Can we cuddle?" he then asks, immediately getting a nod from the older man. They both get under the covers, Luke curling up next to Ashton, resting his head on his chest as long fingers play with his hair.
"You sure you don't want to talk about it?" Ashton asks after a while, pretty worried since Luke rarely has nightmares.
"positive" he hears from the younger man, feeling his warm breath fan across his chest. He opens his mouth to answer back but before he gets a chance to a lightning lights up the room, quickly followed by yet another bang of thunder. He then feels Luke jump slightly next to his and when he moves his eyes to look at him he realises that tears once again are rolling down his cheeks.
"Hey." He whispers, carefully wiping the tears off his skin. "hey, what's the matter? Is it the storm?" Luke, still not wanting to admit to the older man that it is in fact the storm, that he's absolutely terrified by it, shakes his head only to then jump again when another lightning flash against the dark sky and he cries even harder.
~
A few minutes pass and Ashton's now sure it is the storm that's got Luke this upset. He can see that the younger man is embarrassed about that though and instead of questioning him about it he just lays there, playing with his hair and doing what he can to calm him, knowing how horrible it can be when you're really really scared of something. Eventually he hears Luke's breathing even out, right around the time the time between lightnings starts getting longer, and by the time the rain stops and the dawn breaks they're both fast asleep.
