~ I don't really like this one because it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to but eh.

Double update today? That might happen, but if it doesn't I'll post something I've been working on for a while now tomorrow instead. okay? xx /M ~

“Earlier this morning, it was confirmed that Hank Wilson, convicted of sexually assaulting a ten year old student for over five months before the boy’s mother found out, has been released from prison and is now a free man. Our reporter was at the scene when Wilson left the courthouse and even though he couldn’t be reached for a statement he was heard saying that he will be going to London, trying to build a new life there. As for the boy he assaulted, his name was never released to the press and his whereabouts are unknown.” Calum wasn’t really paying attention to the news reporter, but something caught his attention and as he listens, his heart picks up it’s pace. all the noise in the cafeteria turns into muffled sounds and the only thing that matters is what’s happening on the small screen in the corner of the room. Hank Wilson, a name that will be forever imprinted in his brain, a name he won’t ever be able to forget. He remembers when he first heard it, remembers when he was sitting in the kitchen in Michael’s house, talking to Karen about it while Michael was sleeping upstairs. It had felt wrong, talking about him without him knowing, but Calum knew he’d never be able to ask Michael about it and he also felt like he had to know. Karen had told him everything about the trial, that she hadn’t been able to attend herself but her sister had been there, keeping an eye on everything for her while she was home with Michael, and what she knew about Wilson. He had been an amazing teacher, everyone seemed to love him and it came as a shock when the truth was discovered, but he was convicted none the less. Calum, of course, knew he’d get out of prison sometime and he knew that people convicted of sexual assault never got more than fifteen years, but he never expected it to happen this soon. He thought that by the time it happened, he’d be done with college and back home with Michael, not that he’d be in a cafeteria an hour’s drive away from where he was needed.

“Calum? You alright mate?” one of his friends, John, waves a hand in front of his face and Calum blinks a couple times.

“I have to go.” he says before getting up, leaving his tray on the table but remembering to bring his bag as he rushes out of the room, ignoring the stares from the other students as he pushes the doors open.

Calum drives as fast as he possibly can, cutting people off and probably breaking all kind of rules as he does so, but he couldn’t care less. There’s only one thing that matters to him right now and that’s to get to Michael. It’s been over a year since Calum spent Christmas with Michael and Karen and a lot has changed since then. For one, Calum and Michael have moved in together. It’s a small apartment no more than ten minutes from Karen’s house but they love it, they absolutely love it. Michael’s dream disorder has gotten a little bit less severe and some night passes without either of them waking up because of him having a nightmare and he is happier than he were before. Or...he were. If Michael knows about this, and Calum’s sure he does, who knows how he’s feeling. And Calum can’t even call Karen and ask her to go check on Michael because she’s out of the country on a businesstrip.

His heart is pounding in his chest when he pulls up outside the apartment complex and he doesn’t even bother with locking the doors before he runs over to the door, pulling it open and taking the stairs three steps at the time. His hands are shaking when he pulls the keys out of his pocket and tries to unlock the door, the thoughts of him maybe being too late refusing to leave his mind. What if he is too late, what if he’ll step inside and find that Michael is gone. What will he do? how will he cope with that? Michael has been the most important person in his life for so long now and he can’t remember what it’s like not to have him.

And then, finally, he manages to unlock the door and he steps inside.

“Michael!” there’s no answer but he can hear someone moving around in the bedroom. “Michael!” Calum hurries over, pushing the door open just to find Michael pacing the room, wearing nothing but one of Calum’s shirts and boxers. It’s clear he hadn’t been awake for long when he heard the news, but at the moment that’s not important. Not to Calum, what matters to him is that Michael’s there, Michael’s there and Michael needs him because Michael’s eyes are glazed with tears and filled with panic and his whole body’s shaking and Calum feels so helpless and so scared but he needs to put those feeling away because Michael is his and Michael needs him.

Carefully, since he doesn’t want to scare Michael, who doesn’t seem to have noticed him yet, Calum enters the room.

“Mikey?” Michael stops dead in his tracks and his head snaps up, eyes landing on Calum. “Mikey. Hey baby come here.” Calum walks closer but Michael shakes his head and goes back to pacing the room.

“he’s gonna find me.” Michael says, his voice low and shaky. “he’ll come here and find me and he...h-he’ll do it all over again and I can’t Cal, I c-can’t do this.” when Michael turns around again and comes over to Calum, calum grabs his hands and pulls him close, expecting the shorter of the two to try and get out of his grip, but instead he just goes limp, allowing Calum to pull him into his lap after sitting down on the bed.

“Michael, look at me baby.” Calum begs, running a hand through Michael’s hair. When Michael does look up at him, the tears now falling from his eyes, Calum places a hand on his cheek. “you are not going to be alone this time okay? I’ll be right here all the time, I’m not leaving you and I’m not letting anyone hurt you.” Michael looks away again and when Calum pulls him closer, he can feel Michael’s heatbeat, his heart beating even faster than Calum’s does. “I know this is extremely scary, I’m scared too, but you can get through this Michael.”

“Calum I can’t.” Michael tries to gets up from Calum’s lap and when Calum won’t let him go he starts pulling at the hem of his, Calum’s shirt, biting his lip in an attempt to stop himself from crying. “he’s gonna find me and everything’s gonna happen again and he was right about everything he said and…”

“no.” Calum cuts him off. “no Michael, he wasn’t right about anything.” Michael doesn’t answer, he just keeps fiddling with Calum’s shirt. Calum sighs, unable to think of anything that could calm Michael when he’s almost panicking himself.

“can we just...lay down?” Michael asks and Calum’s quick to nod and remove his arms from where they’re wrapped around Michael’s waist. The pair lays down, facing each other, and Calum places a hand under Michael’s chin, turning his face upwards so their eyes meet.

“I’m gonna tell you something now, okay? It’s gonna be extremely cheesy and cliché but I need to say it and you need to listen because I mean it.” Michael doesn’t say anything, but he doesn’t look away either and Calum knows he’s listening. “do you know what made me fall in love with you in the first place? Back when we were seventeen?” Michael shakes his head, blinking away a few tears. “your eyes.” Calum smiles softly and strokes Michael’s cheek. “I always thought it was like the stars had left the sky to come live in your eyes because no matter how dark it was around us and no matter how sad you were, your eyes always sparkled a little.” Michael opens his mouth to say something but no words come out and Calum continues. “I’m going to be here with you Michael, right here. But you need to lead the way, you need to help me figure out what I can do to help you.”

“I don’t...I don’t know if I can.” Calum removes his hand from Michael’s cheek, moving it down to grab his hand instead.

“you can.” he mumbles, intertwining their fingers. “you can, you’re so brave Michael, you’ve been so strong and brave and look how far you’ve come, look how many people you’re making happy.” Michael raises an eyebrow, clearly not believing Calum, and the younger boy smiles softly. “you make me so happy Michael, and I swear I’m going to do everything I can to make you happy too, to keep you safe, but you need to help me.”

“okay.” Michael’s voice isn’t much louder than a whisper, but Calum hears him.

“okay?” Michael nods and moves closer to Calum, wrapping his arms around his waist and hiding his face in the crook of his neck. “okay.” Calum smiles again, running a hand through Michael’s hair. “you’re not alone Mikey, I’m here. I’m not gonna leave you.”
