A Case Reopened [Book Two]

Twenty-Two

Olivia and Amanda walked laps around the maternity floor. Even if Olivia's labor was progressing to the point where she could go to the hospital, she still wasn't even close to start pushing at all. All she wanted to do was hold Teddy, but as she hours went by she knew she wouldn't meet her son for hours. Maybe even days at the rate she felt she was going.

When Amanda got tired, she switched out with Jenni so she could eat and use the bathroom. So she could make calls to the friends that were waiting for news on Olivia and Teddy. But once she was done, she'd either take over for Jenni or just join them.

"Okay. I'm done. I want help." Olivia grumbled, after 12 hours of being at the hospital. She was angry at her son for being stubborn. And she was angry at everyone around her for not being able to help her. 

"I can get Dr. Hanson and see if she can give you medicine to get things going," Amanda spoke, but Olivia stopped her and shook her head.

"You have to stay. Jenni, can you please go ask for my doctor?" Olivia breathed, and Jenni nodded. She walked away as Amanda and Olivia walked into her room. Olivia got to the bed and slowly sat on the edge of it as she looked at her wife.

"I'm sorry you are in so much pain, Liv... that everything isn't going how you want it to go." Amanda frowned, as she stood closer to the door than she was to her wife.

"Amanda, this is how I had expected my labor to go with Hunter. Instead, I had her in the back of our freaking car... and I wish that was happening again. At least things would be going faster." Olivia frowned. She ran her hand over her stomach before taking in a slow breath. Amanda walked to her wife and grabbed her hands as she scrunched up her face a bit.

"You are incredibly strong, Olivia. You are amazing and can do this. I know you can." Amanda spoke. She leaned in and rested her forehead against Olivia's, before feeling as Olivia squeezed her hands.

"I'm okay." Olivia breathed.

"I know you are, honey. Do you want to get back into bed? Maybe get some sleep before Teddy decides he is finally ready?" Amanda asked quietly. Olivia looked at her wife before shaking her head.

"I'd rather know why you look scared," Olivia whispered. Amanda swallowed hard before shrugging.

"I know that you will do good while delivering Teddy... but I hate to see you in pain and I hate knowing that something could go wrong."

"I'm not going to leave you, Hunter, and Teddy. I promise."

Olivia was given medicine to get things progressing faster, and she also decided on getting an epidural. She never wanted one, but she was so tired and couldn't sleep through the pain let alone talk through it.

Olivia slept for several hours, only waking up long enough to get checked and then she fell back asleep. 

"This is taking forever." Jenni frowned, as she and Amanda sat together and tried to figure out things to do while Olivia slept.

"You can take off if you want. I've got it here." Amanda spoke, but Jenni shook her head.

"I'm not leaving her now. You both wanted me here, so I'm here... I'm just saying it's taking forever and this has gotta be taking its toll on Olivia." Jenni spoke. Amanda nodded slowly as she looked over at her wife.

"I know that Olivia says she's okay, but she isn't. She's angry and tired. She's in pain, and Olivia doesn't want to show me that this is really getting to her. I just wish she would though." Amanda sighed.

"Why? Doesn't it make it harder on you?" Jenni asked.

"Because when I'm sad, she knows. When I'm in pain, she knows. I show her when I'm sad or in pain. I just wish she'd show me when she's sad and in pain too." Amanda sighed. She stood slowly and went to leave the room to clear her head when Olivia yawned loudly.

"Where do you think you are going, Mandy?"

One full day after going to the hospital, Teddy was born. He was quiet, which was nerve-wracking. Hunter was screaming once she was born, but her baby brother was different. He cried a little bit as he was being cleaned up but then was calm. He was alert and very calm as he rested against Olivia's chest as she and Amanda cooed softly to him and covered his sweet little face with kisses.

"They are completely different from each other," Olivia whispered as she looked at her wife and smiled.

"Hunter is so sassy and loves to be the center of attention... but then here is Teddy. He's quiet, and I can't wait to see how he changes and grows up."

"Amanda, how many more do you want? Because I'm willing to completely move ahead and get our life going in full force." Olivia spoke. Amanda caressed her wife's messy hair before shrugging.

"Maybe another one or two. I told Jenni that I didn't know if I wanted to have four kids, but if that's what you'd want I want it too." Amanda spoke. She leaned down and kissed her wife before they turned their focus back to Teddy.

"Can you do me a quick favor? And I'll never ask for you to call them again." Olivia spoke.

"You want me to call your mother and tell her that you had Teddy? Then we are done with them for good, right?" Amanda asked, and Olivia nodded slowly.

"I promise."

Amanda left the room and leaned against the wall as she dialed Serena's number. They had changed their numbers, so Serena and the rest of Olivia's family couldn't get in contact with them.

She waited several moments as the phone rang before Serena picked up.

"Hello?"

"Theodore David Rollins was born about an hour ago. He weighs in at ten pounds and is twenty-one inches long. He was born 5 days overdue. He has brown hair and we already can see one dimple on his cheek. He's adorable and he is very much loved. Olivia just wanted you to know that he's here and healthy. He's here and he is amazing." Amanda spoke.

"Rena Marie passed away the day after Olivia left Phoenix. So we don't care." Serena spat.
