In Denial

Everything was silent. A pin drop could be heard in the house. No one talked when your grandma finished the story. Nathan and granny sat, looking at you; you who were shedding tears nonstop. It was inaudible. You sometime sniffed or made a little noise but other then that, a waterfall rush down your cheeks.

The thought of your parents and how they died brought back old memories that you always tuck deep inside you. Never wanting to think about how, why, or about them at all. Even though it's been a long time and it had happened when you were a little girl, but it still had a big impact on your life.

Granny reached out, slowly comforting you with her hand patting your back. Just like how it was when you were little and couldn't sleep at night because of nightmares. That warm and comforting beat always calm you down. You rest your head into the crook of her neck and could feel her light heartbeat. With your eyes closed, you tried to calm down.

Once in a while, you could feel someone wiping away your tears that were still falling. You didn't know if it was Nathan or granny but that didn't matter at the time. After a while, you finally calm down.

"Honey~" A scratchy voice filled your ears. You know that voice, it belonged to none other then your loving grandma. "Come on honey, someone wants to talk with you"

You slightly reopened your eyes. It seemed like you just drifted off to somewhere in less then a few minutes. Totally forgotten you were still in your grandmas house. *Oh... Nathan..*

Granny helped you into a sitting position since your body refused to do anything but just hang limply like a dead corpse. "I'll leave you two alone" Granny whispered to Nathan before leaving to go upstairs.

*No... Don't leave...* Both of you thought at the same time

With the existence of granny gone, it seemed like the tension in the air got even more thicker. Nathan gulped. Not knowing what to say. He had hoped that granny would've at least stayed and help him just a little. After a while of pondering, he turn and gave you a long look. A concern but guilty look. *Shit, what do i even say in this kind of situation. I knew that it would be bad, but i didn't know it was gonna be like this...*

He racked his brains to try to think of something that could maybe start a convo and try to make you not burst back into tears.

"Luna..." He called out. Your eyes that were fixed on something on the floor now met his eyes. "I want you to know that.. I'm sorry. I really truly am.." Nathan softly said.

You sat up straighter and stare at him even more. It looked like you didn't understand and Nathan was about to repeat it again. He would repeat it over and over if he had to but you stopped him.

"I'm okay" You said, forcing a smile but you could tell that you failed.

Nathan blinked, eyes wide and gaping at what you just had said. "Wh-What?! Luna... I know you. I know you're not fine by any of this."

"No. I'm fine" Again, with that monotone voice of yours. You were lying to yourself, you know it. You could never be ok with something like this. But it was the only thing that could make you forget, even if you had to lie.

"No! You're not! You're in denial!"

"I am not!"

He reached his hand out and tried to pull you closer but you acted quickly and moved away. The hurt expression could clearly be seen on Nathan's face. "I'm fine..." You mumbled to yourself.

"Is everything ok? I heard yelling!" Granny ran down stairs. Even if she was old, she has a body and energy like a teenager. She looked to you then to Nathan, making sure that nothing bad had happened. She sigh with relief.

"It's getting dark soon. I hate to say this but you should go. Nathan here can walk you" Granny lightly squeezed Nathan's shoulder, a sign that everything would be ok.

*Him?!* Your body shook and you shot off the couch, "NO! ... Uh i mean... No, i want to stay here for the night. If that's ok."

"...Of course honey."

And with that Nathan was forced out of the door, sooner then he could say spoons. But glancing back, he didn't miss the smile that you gave him before the door shut completely.

*It was a big impact on her wasn't it... Such a fake smile Luna... I know you enough by now*
