Madelina passed Klaus' room and heard soft crying.

She knocked on the door and asked softly, "Can I come in?"

Klaus sniffled and nodded. "Uh, sure."

She sat next to him on his bed and met his eyes. "Klaus, are you okay?"

He nodded. "Yeah I'm fine."

Madelina sighed. "Please, please don't lie to me. Something happened, and I'd like to help."

"Well, you can't," Klaus said bitterly.

Madelina pursed her lips. "Let me try, Klaus. What happened?"

Klaus sighed, avoiding his sister's eyes. "So you know my power, right?"

"The ability to speak to the dead. Among other things."

"Yeah, well, Dad wants me to get over my fear of the dead."

Madelina turned so she was facing her brother. "Klaus, what did Dad do to you?"

In a trembling voice, Klaus replied, "He locked, locks me up in the mausoleum. Every day he asks if I've gotten over my fear of the dead, but he just makes it worse."

Madelina hugged him tightly. "Oh, Klausy. I'm so sorry. Do you want me to talk to Dad?"

He shook his head. "It won't do any good. I just need to learn to get over it."

"No, that won't do any good. As much as I know you hate doing so, you need to accept your power. It's the only way, Klaus."

He frowned. "Easy for you. You're ordinary."

"Yeah, and do you know what I'd give to go on missions with you guys?"

Klaus' expression dropped. "I'm sorry, Madi. I-I didn't mean that."

"I know you didn't."

After a moment, Klaus said, "There is one way I can think of to stop my fear."

"And what way would that be?"

"Hiding my powers from myself."

"Meaning?"

"All I have to do is be high!"

Madelina shook her head. "Klaus, that's a really, really bad idea. You have no idea what that could do to your body."

"No, but at least I won't hear the screams of the dead."

"I can't talk you out of this, can I?"

"Nope."

Madelina sighed. "Very well. If your mind is that made up, then let me offer you some words of advice. Don't kill yourself."

Klaus grinned. "Don't worry. I have no intentions of doing that. Thanks, Madi!"

"You're welcome, Klaus. Though, I would have liked you to have made a different choice."
