It's already six in the morning when I wake up, bumaba na 'ko para magluto ng almusal at magtimpla ng kape at gatas.
I tapped his shoulders trying to wake him up.
"Saglit lang Kc, five minutes." Nakapikit niyang sabi.
I yelled, my lips started to shake in nervous.
I said while crying.
My lola is my sword and my shield since I was a little. I don't know what to do if she will leave us too.
I said worriedly.
The Doctor asked.
"Opo Doc, kami po." Agad na sagot ni kuya.
"Your grandma has Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or what we called (COPD). It is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs. These are the symptoms include breathing difficulty, cough, mucus (sputum) production and wheezing. It's typically caused by long-term exposure to irritating gases or particulate matter, most often from cigarette smoke." Mahabang paliwanag ng Doctor.
"Is your grandmother smoking?" The Doctor asked.
"Hindi po Doc." Sabay naming sagot ni kuya.
"Well between 10 to 20 percent of people with COPD, have never been smoked."
"Doc gagaling naman po si lola 'diba?" I asked him with a hopeful voice.
"Unlike some diseases, COPD typically has a clear cause and a clear path of prevention, and there are ways to slow the progression of the disease. But sad to say there's no cure for COPD, but treatment can help to ease symptoms, lower the chance of the complications and generally improved the quality of life. Medications, supplemental oxygen therapy and surgery are some forms of treatment.
