chapter thirteen : overnight

" Well I want you to think about that Hills. " Takahashi spoke. " If she knows you, it would be a whole lot of help getting her on our side. " 

" Alright. I'll try and see if I can remember. " I answered.

" Thank you Hills. Have a goodnight kids. " Takahashi then turned to look at his computer. I walked out, Hestia and Luke followed.

" Holy.. was I right-? " Hestia's face lit up.

" Maybe. " I wasn't in a good set of mind. I was confused. And I didn't like that feeling.

" Yeah didn't she know your name-? I can read minds. " Hestia smiled, she seemed really happy that she guessed Kat and I might know each other. She can't actually read minds though.

" How come I didn't hear of this-? " Luke asked.

" You probably did and just don't remember. " I answered.

" I can see that. " Hestia replied.

We started going down the stairs toward the doors.

" Yo I had an idea. " Luke added.

" What is it-? " I asked. Slowing starting to lighten up.

" What if we slept over at your house and tried to help you remember Hero Kat's identity if you know her? " Luke asked.

" I'm good with that. " Hestia answered immediately. She lives in the dark side of town, Tsuki. And she never liked it. She always preferred Taiyo.

" Sure that sounds good. Plus hanging out with you guys is way better then still having to fight Hero Kat. " I chuckled.

We started walking toward my apartment. Luke and Hestia have extra clothes at my apartment. They literally claimed one of my dresser drawers to their clothing. Just extra clothing they leave at my place. We don't hang out at Hestia's house because her whole family is Tsuki. And we don't hang out at Luke's place because.. He has questionable parents. For now lets just say they have too much adult grape juice. 

" I left my mom a voicemail saying Basil was at Tanaka's- So I hope she got it. " I spoke.

" Yeah. If she didn't she would have gone mad. " Hestia commented.

" I'm gonna call her and ask if you guys can stay over. " I took my phone of my pocket and dialed my moms number, then putting it on speaker so she could talk with Hestia and Luke. She always loved them.

" Oh honey! How was the mission?! I got your voicemail and Basil is safe at home. " My mother went off, she really likes hearing about my missions. She always wanted to be a full time hero but she never had the time. Especially because I came to exist. 

" I'll tell you about the mission as soon as I'm home, but I just wanted to ask if Hestia and Luke could sleep over? We have a lot of stuff to go over and I'll explain everything to you when we're there. " I answered.

" Hi Ms. Hills! " Hestia said into the phone.

" Hola bro " Luke said into the phone as well. Sometimes I wonder why I picked the people I did as friends.

" Oh hello Hamilton and Howler! And yes Carter, they can sleep over. How far are you from the apartment? " My mother asked.

" Uhm, about 15 minutes away. " I answered, the walk being about 30 minutes. We already walked for 15.

" Okay, I'll have supper on the table for four? We can talk about the mission over food! " My mom cheerfully explained.

She always loved when I brought over friends for dinner. She always loves when it's just us, but I guess she likes when I bring my friends because she can cook more food and there is more people to talk to then just me. My mom is a very talkative person.

" Sounds good, thanks mom! " I smiled.

" Anytime Carter. See you soon! Love you. " I could tell she was smiling just from her voice.

" Love you too. " I hung up. I put my phone back in my pocket.

" Carter can your mom adopt us. She's literally our second mom. " Hestia chuckled.

" I'd love to have her as my mother rather than my actual mother any day. " Luke laughed.

" No, my mom. " I chucked.

We laughed and talked for the whole walk to the apartment. Hestia and Luke we're always my best friends. Or at least it feels like forever. We just got to the steps of my apartment, I held the door open for Hestia and Luke. Then went to go unlock the stairwell door.

" It would be really weird if you actually know Hero Kat. " Hestia spoke, walking through the door, then Luke, then me.

" It would. I started thinking and her voice, sounds like I've heard it before the whole thing went down. Maybe I've just seen her or heard her in public before. " I shrugged it off. If I knew her I would've just, known. Right-?

" Well you could've forgotten but just remembered now. Might take some time for the memory to come back. " Luke added.

" That makes sense. " We finally got to the floor my apartment was on.

We walked to the end of the hall to apartment 412. I unlocked the door and walked in, Basil ran toward me and flopped onto my feet. I smiled. 

" Welcome home guys. " My mother smiled, standing in the living room.

" Thanks mom. " I was smiling, I picked up Basil and held her in my arms. Hestia, Luke and I took off our shoes and put on house slippers.

I looked over to the coffee table in our living room. We didn't have a dining room or dining table so we usually eat in the living room. My mom made cold soba. Which is a type of noodles, but cold. A favourite for when I have Hestia and Luke over. 

" Thank you for letting us stay Ms. Hills. " Luke looked over at my mom.

" Yes thank you very much. " Hestia smiled. She took Basil from me.

I walked over to my mom and hugged her,

" Come on, let's talk about your guys mission! I want to hear every detail! " My mom smiled.

She walked over to the living room and sat on the floor in front of a bowl. Hestia, Luke and I also sat in front of bowls. Claiming the cold soba bowl we wanted.

" Who wants to start explaining the chaos that happened at the mission? " I chuckled. 

" Oo I have a video of Hero Kat beating the hell out of Luke. " Hestia pulled her phone out.

" I guess I'll explain, uhm " Luke spoke. " Takahashi made us all do certain things in partners to try and get her on our side. Hestia and I got cat calling.. And she beat the hell out of us. " 

" That explains Hestia's eye.. " My mom looked worried, she pointed toward Hestia.

" My what-? " Hestia looked up. " Oh yeah- forgot I had a black eye. " 

Hestia looked back down at her phone, then gave the phone to my mom.

" This is a video of Hero Kat beating Luke up. It's very funny. I got two weeks detention for it but it was worth it. " Hestia chuckled.

" Oh dear! " My mother pressed play and looked very worried well watching.

Meanwhile, Luke, Hestia and I were laughing really hard at Luke's pain. Even though Luke is healed now, It was still funny watching him get beat up. 

My mom gave Hestia her phone back after watching.

" Thank god you guys have Easdale on your side. She's very powerful when it comes to healing and she's a very kind girl. " My mom smiled.

" Yeah. But it's still funny to watch kids get beat up. " Hestia took a bite of her cold soba. Basil was trying to sniff the noodles but she was too small to do so.

" What did you do for your turn Carter-? " My mom turned to face me.

" Well a girl in my class named Rezneck and I had to try and kidnap her. But we failed. So did everyone else. " I answered.

" You still have some web on your ear. " Luke chuckled.

" Oh my god. " I took the piece off. That web was very annoying.

" Hero Kat sounds like she's playing very hard to get. " My mother answered.

" Takahashi thinks Hero Kat and Carter personally know each other. " Hestia smiled.

" Why- ? " My mom looked confused.

" She just looked at me for a second. " I brushed it off. 

" After Hero Kat beat the hell out of Luke, Takahashi had to pull her off of Luke. She made eye contact with Carter. Takahashi asked her if she was okay, then she said she just noticed something, and then she left. " Hestia explained.

" She also knows his name. Like, his first name. And everyone calls him Hills at Taiyo like you're supposed to. " Luke added.

" Wow. Imagine if you guys actually knew each other. " My mom smiled.

" That would be scary. Takahashi would make me do way more work then I'm used to just to get Hero Kat on our side. " I replied.

" That does sound scary. Not gonna lie. " Hestia took another slurp of her cold soba.

After a bit of us eating, and talking. It was getting late. When we finished eating, my mom took our bowls and chopsticks to go wash them. Hestia and Luke went to the opposite side of the table I was on. And just put down a picture of Kat's face to make me stare at it to see if I could remember her.

" Come on. Anything-? " Hestia asked.

" All I see is Kat. He voice sounded familiar but I probably just heard it before in public. Like I said to Takahashi. I can't put my finger on it. " I answered, looking up from the photo. 

" Head back down. Look at the photo. " Luke added. So I looked back down at the photo.

" I don't see anything familiar. " I answered again.

" Keep thinking. " Hestia spoke. She was petting Basil. Basil was sleeping in Hestia's lap.

" I'm placing bets. She's Annabelle. " Luke smiled.

" If she is, I'm throwing hands. " Hestia replied.
