chapter twenty-five : tsuki to taiyo

I stood at the top of the stairs. I was still angry. My breathing was heavy and it felt like my heart was trying to rip itself out of my chest.

But I knew we were doing this for the good.

I just continued standing at the top of the stairs, waiting for Vanille to say when I need to come back. I could hear what was happening, and even a bit too.

Amelia was about to put a shield to capture Vanille, but her power didn't seem to work. I could see the anger within her build up.

" Kat.. " Amelia smiled, you could tell the smile was out of anger.

" What? " Vanille acted like she didn't know what was happening.

" Did you steal my ability? " Amelia took a deep breath, her arms still out trying to create a shield. 

" No, why would I do that. I'm on your guys side now, remember? " Vanille shrugged.

" Right, right. " Amelia looked at the ground, than back at Vanille. She put her arms down. " It's probably just an ability malfunction. We can trust you. "

" Obviously. Also, I'm sorry for hurting you guys a while back. I just got overwhelmed. " Vanille made eye contact with Amelia.

I knew we were getting closer. The moment was slowly creeping up.

Amelia was about to grab the scissors off of the table, and than she started to stumble back as if there was an arm around her neck.

" HESTIA. " Hades screamed, Sweet got up and uncuffed Hades. Hestia went back into view.

Hades went to throw a punch at Hestia, I picked him up with my telekinesis and threw him across the room from Hestia, knocking over Sweet as well. Hestia kept her arm around Amelia's neck.

I ran down the stairs back into the room. Vanille and I exchanged looked. We continued to go and fight. Vanille had taken everyone's abilities except for Hestia and I.

Hades ability is to create almost like pocket knifes and than throw them at people. He would have probably sliced me to shreds already, but Vanille took that advantage from him.

We fought for a while. Hades was down. Same with Amelia. It was just the just the sweet and sour twins left. Hestia came back into view when she got Amelia down. 

Vanilles eyes started twitching between red and light blue. I know she was over using her powers. But she couldn't stop now.

Sour and Sweet were backed up into a corner, with Hestia, Vanille and I surrounded them.

" What should we do with these guys? " Hestia crossed her arms well looking at Vanille and I.

" We can't exactly hurt them, we have a higher advantage. " I answered.

Vanilles eyes were twitching again, this time a little too much.

" I think we need to get out of here. " Hestia spoke, looking a Vanille.

" I don't think so. " Sweet smiled. Both Hestia and I looked at her. Vanille looked at the ground. 

There was silence for a few seconds. Than Vanilles eyes went fully blue again. Sour looked at us and sprayed orange juice without any sweeteners at us. I'm pretty sure it was already noticeable that her power is sour stuff.

My eyes were stinging, and I couldn't see. I than heard a swooping sound, and than Vanilles screams. I tried opening my eyes, they hurt a lot. But I grabbed Hestia's wrist and ran after this thing that swooped Vanille away.

My sight slowly started coming back properly. The thing dragging Vanille away seemed to be another person. Someone with flying ability.. but it wasn't Luke.

The person flew out of Tsuki. Hesita and I ran after them.

I could tell Vanille was trying to take away the ability from this person but they had a blindfold over their eyes so Vanille couldn't suck the ability out of them through eye contact.

The person flying stopped in mid-air, too high up for Hestia and I to get Vanille. They held onto their stomach, other arm holding on to Vanille. 

A smile grew upon my face, as well as Hestia. Because we knew what was happening. Easdale was here. Except the pain Easdale was causing the girl who kidnapped Vanille wasn't enough, because she shot herself straight into the sky with Vanille still in his grasp.

" HECK. " Easdale yelled, she ran out from behind the school next to us.

" Oh no- oh no oh no oh no.. " Hestia panicked.

" Come on.. there has to be some way we can fix this- " I spoke. And than an idea came up into my head. " Stay here. " 

I backed up, Hestia and Easdale looked at me.

" Carter. Where are you going? " Hestia spoke.

" Up. " I gulped, I used my telekinesis to pick myself up. I flew up to the girl taking away Vanille and started to chase her.

It was hard to breathe how far up we were. Oxygen couldn't reach where we were. But I kept pushing myself into chasing this girl. Vanille was hanging by this girls arm. I could tell Vanille was trying her best not to look down. This made me need to save her more.

Next thing I knew, I saw something else flying toward us. It wasn't a bird, nor a plane. Not even superman. It was- Luke!? Wasn't he hurt?

I could see him flying toward us. Bandages all over his body. Blood still leaking through them. He made eye contact with me and than looked at Vanille, and back at me. I knew exactly what he was trying to tell me.

I dropped down. Letting go of the telekinesis. The fall felt as if it was slow motion. I could die, but I didn't think I was going to. Like I had this sense we were finally okay..

Luke quickly flew toward the flying girl, he lunged at her. Forcing her to drop Vanille. Right above me. 

" VANNY! " I yelled, getting her attention.

Vanille turned to look at me, us both falling rapidly. I reached my hand out for her and Vanille latched on. We had each other at the wrists.

I pulled Vanille toward me and gave her a protective hug. Like If I were to die from the impact it would somehow protect her.

But than we automatically stopped falling. We both opened our eyes to see we were on the ground in front of our school. Taiyo. I looked at Vanille. We made eye contact for three seconds and than started laughing.

Hestia walked over to us and kicked my back, not hard though.

" Come on laughing heads. Get up. " Hestia chuckled. Luke landed beside her, as he just flew back from Tsuki.

Hestia had her arm around Easdale. Takahashi standing beside them with crossed arms and a smile. We were all bloody from fighting Tsuki members. Especially Luke because of getting kidnapped.  

I got up and helped up Vanille as well. We succeeded. And we were all safe. I was more than happy.

" So, Hero Kat. " Takahashi spoke, as he looked at Vanille. Everyone's attention shifted to her.

" Hi, hello. " Vanille chuckled. She wiped the blood from her nose.

" Do you think, you're ready to answer the question? " Takahashi asked. Vanille hesitated a bit.

" Come on! Are you joining Taiyo or not!? " Luke spoke excitedly.

" Ugh, fine. " Vanille smiled. She looked at me and than the rest of the group.

Everyone cheered. We were all excited. Going through all of this just to get Vanille back was worth it. It was amazing having her back.

I felt calm for once. I felt safe. Like there wasn't going to be anything terrible for a while. And we could all feel safe again.

" So, who is having me over at their place? " Hestia asked. We all looked at her confused. " I can't go back into Tsuki. Especially into my house after we fought my brother. Hades. " 

Everyone looked at Takahashi. He sighed.

" Fine, another sleepover at my place. " Takahashi smiled. Everyone cheered again. " But no staying up past eleven. " 

Everyone stopped cheering.

But in the end, it was all worth it.
