(main characters ages : 8 years)

I jumped in my seat as I heard a knock on the door. I saw my mom walking to the door from the kitchen, I jumped in front of her so I could open the door. I just assumed it was Vanille (van-ill) Ito. My best friend since, forever. It's weird to think of it, but I've never seen her without her beanie.

she always wears a white beanie over her light brown just-above-the-shoulder length hair. She has light blue eyes and pale skin. she always has some sort of scars on her body but they heal quickly.

And to my surprise, there she was. She is almost always smiling. Except this time there were tears and a frown. The smile came off my face.

" V-Vanille? " It felt weird saying her full name. I'm used to calling her Vanny. or Vanilla. Not Vanille.

" Hey.. " She spoke. We were the same height, I was always shorter than her until a few months ago, I started to catch up.

" Everything okay? " I asked, I put my hand on her chin and lifted her face up from looking at the ground. Then put my hand back to my side, I saw her parents truck behind her.

" I-I came to say goodbye. " Vanille spoke, looking me in the eyes.

" Where are you going-? " I asked. Usually she comes to say goodbye before vacations, but she was crying.

" I never got my power yet so my parents are convinced I'm not a fantasy. " Vanille answered, wiping her eyes with her sleeve.

" Well- you were born into a 100% fantasy blood family so you can't be a normal. That's impossible! " I ranted. My mother came up behind me and put her hands on my shoulders.

" I know Carter, but I have no choice. I have to go. " She answered. She was a few months older then me but she acted like we were years apart.

" But- "

" You know I'll see you again. "

She hugged me one last time, and then walked down the pathway of our house. Getting into her parents truck. She waved at me one last time before the truck drove off.
